delta1 Posted July 20, 2003 Posted July 20, 2003 I did not vote, as I don't see the point.Based on what I've heard, Kenpo usually doesn't allow full contact or kicks below the waste..., I could be wrong Yup. You are wrong on both counts. AK doesn't do a lot of high kicks, most are to the base. And we do 'full' contact. In fact, in my school, you won't get your black without it. Freedom isn't free!
aznkarateboi Posted July 20, 2003 Author Posted July 20, 2003 Just wondering, do any styles (or kenpo) do full contact and bare knuckle with face punches?
delta1 Posted July 20, 2003 Posted July 20, 2003 That's more an individual thing than a style thing. I used to work out with a group that spared with no pads or protection and in street clothes, and we did contact. But it was not the mythical "full contact." We used less force to the head than the body, and certainly pulled the potentially crippling or harmful shots. There may be some out there that train hard bare knucle strikes to the head and face, but I've never met any. Sounds pretty gruesome to me. Freedom isn't free!
Bl4cKtH0rN Posted July 20, 2003 Posted July 20, 2003 karate win! "Someday, I'll be the most powerfull jedi ever..."
sano Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 bare knuckle fights gruesome it's fun, i'll tell the truth it's not good to the body i have two oversized knuckles on my hand, but thats not bad whats bad is when your outside people stare at your hand and i hate that i mean their not that big their not normal size but their not huge. falcon kick!!!
sano Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 one more thing if shidokan was up there it will win with it's eyes close . falcon kick!!!
Hohan-1 Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 It's funny to read that you guys think that American Kenpo would fair none to good in a NHB match compared to Shotokan (never been even one participant in Pride or UFC) or Kyokushin (Rutten is strctly Muay Thai now). The fact is that an American Kenpo guy, I forget his name, was successful in knocking out that huge American Sumo Emmanuel Yarborough, with multiple open hand strikes to the face and cabeza. He broke his hands to heck but he did win at least one match and showed the efficacy of "slap fu". Now if they closed their fists, then those slap happy karate-ka will at least have the hands portion down of original Shuri Te. Kyokushin is a sport as is Shotokan. I would pick Kyokushinkai over Shotokan 90% of the time. It's like Shotokna on 'rhoids. Traditional=EternalNidan, Hakutsurukan
aznkarateboi Posted July 21, 2003 Author Posted July 21, 2003 Kenpo is good, but I would still choose Kyokushin. I may be wrong, but I'm sure that if more people actually knew about kyokushin karate, there would be more in the NHB world. Kyokushin, like Muay Thai, has an intense training method and emphasizes low, powerful kicks. Being a practitioner, I would say that it also has a good share of stand-up grappling techniques/throws. Kyokushin, like Shotokan, also emphasizes power, solid punches, but with speed as well.
