kle1n Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 hi i wanted to practive the first form at home. u guys know where to find a video? wing chun consists of 3 forms do these 3 forms have all moves that wing chun has in them? Be everything. Be nothing.
paralax19 Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 you can get a video at https://www.wingchuninteractive.com
Prodigal Son Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 You can buy Austin Goh's (Master Of WCKF) DVD on https://www.play.com, where he does the forms (including the knives, for what it's worth). Austin does lots of posing on this DVD, and he rips though the forms with little explanation, but none the less it is well worth watching. He's a good practitioner - though the Jong he sold me wasn't all that >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. Drunken Monkey Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 hmmm, isn't this the same austin goh whose store off carnaby street has closed??? anyone know where he's gone? anyway, i don't really recommend learning forms from a book or video, especially if you're thinking of taking proper classes. no matter how closely you can imitate what you see, you will never learn about the invisible things like how a proper stance feels like, or the spring touch of a properly executed bong sau... worse still is if you get into bad habits cos then your instructor will have a hard time time trying to teach you their methods. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Prodigal Son Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I've said often enough on this forum that you can't learn through watching videos - and you certainly can't learn WC unless you go to a teacher. But none the less, you CAN learn something from watching a video of a Sifu, IF you know what you are looking for... personally I disagree with quite a bit of Mr. Goh's stuff, but there aren't many videos showing five forms which are available to the public. BTW, all the hand techniques of WC are in the 1st form - but they are invisible unless you are shown what they are. >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. Drunken Monkey Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 almost invisible. most of the time you will use them during chi sau and not know you have used it unless someone steps in and shows you your hand/body positions. in particular, the locking/trapping motions in the first form are very well hidden... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
KwicKixJ1 Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 wing chun is great. btw. that wingchuninteractive page is really neat. that'd be cool if they had something similar for other styles of kung fu. just to see the differences.
Drunken Monkey Posted November 1, 2003 Posted November 1, 2003 oh and about his shop. sorry, it's not closed. the last few times i was around there it was closed during the day and looked kinda, well, closed. was there last night and i have to say, he is very much up and running. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
