sansoouser
Is it? Or is it just a bunch of mumbo jumbo The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
Kyle-san
It depends on what style and the sensei. Sadly, there are a lot of karate factories out there right now with the goal of making as much money as possible, even if that means a loss of proper training. Hell, I even saw an ad in a financial magazine about starting your own karate dojo: NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. And people wonder why karate is the butt of so many jokes. aznkarateboi
Depends on the style. Shotokan and kyokushin are excellent for fighting. The rest, I don't know about
sansoouser
it seems azn you listed your style and one other. So since you train in it you are biased no matter what you say therefore since you train in it you must believe in it. The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. SaiFightsMS
As with any style it all depends on the school, the instuctor and the way the student accepts-applies-and practices what they are taught. Within every style there are sure to be "McDojo's" there are also to be found within every style dojos which teach solid karate very suitable for self defense.
