Kirves
Yes, you feel when the actual choke is happening, but there is so much more to a good technique: where are his feet, his hips, his fingers, his head, how are you aligned to him (i.e. where are YOUR feet, hands, elbows, hips, are you standing, on ground, etc.) and so on. Even if the actual choke is right on, he may have a weakness in his position that you can take advantage of.
StoneSkin
So your saying if you perfectly executed a rear naked choke on me I could get out of it ?
Kirves
The question is: what is perfect? If the choke is perfect, but your body alignment towards me is not, then it is possible. But if you mean perfect as in there are no weaknesses in your position in the situation then it may not be possible. But how many people get it 100% perfect all the time? In free fighting or even street fighting there are so many variables that something, your toe, your clothing, your ankle, your hands, your groin, your hip alignment, the surface we are on, the angle we are positioned, or the shoes we are wearing or the jewelry or weaponry involved, or the other attackers, or what you may reach, it all varies and it is nearly impossible to guarantee that every choke ever made is always perfect. So, when attacked with a choke, see if there's some minor detail you can use to your advantage. Or by all means, learn to submit by reflex if that's what you prefer. PS. If every choke technique ever made was always perfect, all the BJJ tournaments, or NHB events would be quite boring. The first opponent who gets the hold wins. End of fight. Even people like Gracies have to try several holds several times as even they don't get it perfect every time.
StoneSkin
Thats what im saying if soemone does it inproperly then you have a chance but if im fighting my heart is already going to be racing, and if im struggling to get out of a properly executed choke im going to be unconious in a 2-3 seconds now 2-3 seconds isnt a lot of time for you to get out of the hold, even if you did reach down and tried to grab the guys nuts or gouge his eye by the time youve done that your already out. SO like I said befor If I guy gets you in a choke hold and you can feel it, you have two choices tap out or pass out.
sunchaser
Is it common to see someone pass out? Or do most people tap out? Also interms of women and Judo are there any physiological differances between a man and a woman that would make it easier or harder for a woman to get choked out? On a whole do you think women are more or less likely to tap out before passing out? Also, sorry for all the questions, during training I'm assuming I would train with both men and women. I'm a very strong very fit woman but I am not a man and while some women would get all over me for saying this I think an average man is still stronger than a very fit woman. If I was training with a man I think the likelyhood that he would choke me out would increase due to the physical differances. Is this an incorrect assumption? Thanks Jill
StoneSkin
sex doesnt really play into the role of the choke, a stronger person could out muscle you, but as for the choke itself when it is properly applied it wont make much difference, however there are some people who naturally have deeper arteries and veins and they wont be as easy to choke out but they still can be. Sho-ju
I've seen chokes placed properly and people go out when they think they are just fine. It's not that they don't tap, they think there fine because they can breath and continue to work to get to a better position then POW! Asleep. goshinman
I have been choked out before and I don't like it. I had a mean headache afterward. Has anyone else experienced this? Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
Sens55
Goshiman, Yes. I've had a few headaches due to chokes...even if I don't completely pass out. Other than that, I don't think it hurts, it's just emberassing that I messed up and got in that position.
