white owl
A somewhat problematic student, ignoring our class etiquette, referred to me as "dude" and "man" several weeks ago. Lets just say he was reprimanded.Oh we have one of them also and I am clearly a woman an he says "dude" or "man" to me. Let me say I am very good at restraint, even though.......I leave it at that. twistkick kid
I am working on my instructor certification and I wear red pants to signify that I'm in "Instructor College." I was working with a group of younger students and one of them asked"Did you spill cherry juice on your pants?"I had to laugh Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)ITF Tae Kwon Do, 2nd Dan (earned 6 June 2009 in San Diego, CA)Almost 20 years of martial arts training in total
Rateh
I recently had a student (about 8 years old) who was messing around in class. I addressed him, told him he was being inappropriate, and directed him to do 10 push-ups. He mumbled "yes ma'am"...and then proceeded to do nothing...So, what not to say to your instructor? "yes ma'am/sir" and then not do what you said yes to. Also, don't mumble answers to instructors either. Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. - Nido Qubein
sensei8
I was a Jr. Black Belt, 14 years old. I was in my Dai-Soke's office, which was allowed, but what I did wasn't allowed...ever...when out of nowhere I did the stupidest thing...I saw it hanging, I was tempted, and I was by myself...three wrong things for a curious kid, as I was, to be...I committed the biggest sin in a Dojo...or at least in my Dai-Soke's Dojo...I couldn't resist it....it begged of me to do it...I put on my Dai-Soke's belt....AND I WAS CAUGHT RED-HANDED!!!! My Dai-Soke wasn't happy, this is to say the least, he was furious!"What are you doing?" yells my Dai-SokeI jumped out of my skin from fear alone...what should I do? What should I say? I was stuck with my mouth wide open and I was shaking..."I said, What are you doing?" my Dai-Soke yells even louderI stammered...no...I nearly wet myself..."I was pretending to be you!" was my answer..."What? GET IT OFF Nnnnnooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This was followed by some words in Japanese that I still don't know what my Dai-Soke was saying, but, I'm sure it wasn't good...for me that is.I was suspended for 2 months! Harsh? No! I knew better, but, sheech, I was just a kid, a curious dumb kid! My Dai-Soke forgave me! I never EVER did that again! Edited June 17, 2009 by sensei8 **Proof is on the floor!!! twistkick kid
In my studio, I'm the youngest person to hold a black belt, never mind a second degree (my current rank). I was assistant teaching the other night and somebody said, "Why should I listen to you? You're not even 18!! This drill is moving too slowly!" To which I replied (because we were working on joint locks), "If you do this too fast, I will give your partner permission to reciprocate the favor." -Our school has an unwritten rule that you go the pace your partner is ready for, and no faster. Okami
You know I've heard every last one of those and just laughed. The one that did get to me was the one about. "If I had a gun you couldn't do anything." Well I have been in that situation several times...I'm still here.
