sansoouser Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Do you think judo is good for self defense, take a look at this web page http://www.blackbeltmag.com/archives/blackbelt/1982/dec82/judo/judo.html The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
StoneSkin Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 I read the article it makes sense with enough power and speed behind a throw on conreate would probably really hurt someone. And in the sport as well you would use the same throw but 1. your opponent knows how to fall, and 2.you generally help the guy down.
TJS Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 If taught right Judo can be very effective a good throw can end a fight and if it dosent you are in a position to do so or to get away.
Karateka_latino Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Its all about the find the right teacher. Judo can be a very effective art for real combat, not just a sport.
shanemm Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 a good sensai will teach falling before any throws...and throws are really only dangerous when the person throwing lets go as it allows far more things to happen to the person being thrown than just hitting the ground on your back(a lot of the time). There are two types of people in the world. Those that find excuses and those that find a way.-Unknown
