Do you class Boxing as a Martial art

Boxing IS a Martial art

 

It is primarily a martial sport, but it is also an art. And if you get down to practical numbers, it is used in fights far more than any other martial art (at least in the US).

 

If you want to say it isn't a martial art, you'd have to also remove Judo, Mui Thai, TKD, and a lot of other sport oriented arts from the list- all of which can be extremely effective on the street.

look buddy, boxing is not a martial art, but a fight sport. muay thai is the martial art man.

Define 'martial'. Isn't it supposed to mean something to do with 'war'? Does boxing fit that description?

I must've missed a big part of boxing's history. I never knew it and it's rules were designed for warfare.

Yeah boxing is a MA.

 

MA is a broad term. Some will try and restrict it to Japan styles only. Whlie others are more accepting to those who use their hands and feet. Some say weapons some say no weapons. If you take it to its broadest term it would include any style of combat.

It can count as a martial art, but I see it as more in the martial sport category.

Ever seen gangs of New York? Ever read Irish Gangs and Stick Fighting? Lots of western arts are over looked, boxing and wrestling are very effective martial arts.
