Lol.. And you'll probably end up just like that Shotokan fighter in Spain who didn't think he needed to cross train to beat the BJJ fighter.

why in the hell does everyone compared all shotokan fighters to that video clip? that shotokan karate ka didnt even attack he ran right into the BJJ stylist. A shotokan karate ka wouldnt run right into him, with out even attacking, he wasnt a good fighter.

whats funny is you have never experienced BJJ to any extent...if you did you would realize the same thing would proabably happen to you.

one day i am going to sparr against a ground grappler dosent matter what style it is, just so i can experience fighting against a ground grappler. wether i loose or not doesnt matter to me, i just know i wouldnt go down easy. i wish there was a BJJ or judo, any grappling style, so i could go there and challange someone from there school and see how i do against them.

did that fight clip include striking?

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

lol, it did include a few of the karateka's feeble attempts to strike at the bjj fighter on top of him.

but about the topic, i think that shotokan karate is an excellent style but it is not perfect, every system has its flaws including shotokan.

Did that a couple times. I was very pleased that I could hold my own. They were surprised when I was able to switch from striking to grappling, then back again.

some styles are simply more effective than others. and if that style suits you, more the better

Hmm.... How can u judge the effectiveness of a style if there are no people doing it to prove how effective it is?? It all comes down to the person! If there were not people who used the techniques they learned then there would be no such thing has styles and you wouldnt be able to judge there effectiveness or in-effectiveness.

Oh, trust me plenty of people do different martial arts, especially the ones on my list. That's right, many people do MT, Kyokushin, and Shooto which were all on my list. Many people also do other styles, but it is usually certain styles that do better in NHB competitions. So yes, the individual obviously matters, but some styles are simply more effective than others. For example, I would bet my money on a MT fighter over a TKD fighter anyday.

ok.. what happens if the MT fighter is 5 foot tall and has been training for a year but didnt learn anything except that getting kicked in the legs hurts if you can't defend against it. And the TKD fighter is a 6 foot 10 monster who has been training for a year and has picked up the techniques well and can punch and kick effectively?? would you still put your money on the MT fighter? or will the 5 foot guy win becuase he has a name tag that says "hi my names garry and i do MT kickboxing so whatout.. even though i cant do anything except hold my hands up i still do muay Thai so you better be scared" ??

Yeah I don't think it's fair to judge a whole system of fighting on a few idiots that can't fight. It's funny when Gracie was beating everyone it was his BJJ, but when other people won it was the fighter. What about those American Wrestlers who were doing really well in UFC, why isn't everyone going out and taking up American Wrestling, it seemed to work just fine. Once some Karate guy goes in there and kills than everyone is gonna go study Karate. When a Kung Fu guy wins, then everyone will go study that. It's just a matter of time some monster in some other style is going win one of those fights.

horrible argument...of course it ultimatly comes down to the fighter...what he is trying to say is most things being eqaul a MT fighter would dominate a TKD stlyist the majority of the time.
