CheekyMusician
I was performing a roundhouse kick today and the guy who I was sparring with blocked it with his knee. I don't know if it was an accident or deliberate, but it hurts! So a knee to the shin. I'm assuming there's nothing seriously wrong, just some bruising, but it really hurts right now. I really want to train next week too, so I hope its going to feel better tomorrow. Really just a wee rant there. Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to. CheekyMusician
tough it out what dosen't kill you can only make you stronger, right? I guess so, but its just really annoying me I could've killed the guy when it happened, 'cause I have my suspicions that it was no accident, but ach, who knows. Maybe it was. Straight after it happened I could barely stand on my leg, but I just kept on sparring just using my hands and keeping the kicks to a minimum. The pain seemed to ease up a bit after about 20 minutes, but then we'd to do jumping exercises and squats etc. and since then its been pretty unbearable at times. Its OK if I sit still and don't move it, but the moment I stand up, or even change the position my legs are in....OUCH! I just really want to train twice this week (usually only get to train once a week) and if this leg doesn't get better soon, then I might not be able to. Mind you, I'm thinking I'll just train anyway, even if my leg's hanging off! Grr! Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.
TKDLadyInSC
Ow ! I feel your pain. Got kicked in the shin once. Dropped me. Hurt for quite a while. Finally got better after couple weeks. granmasterchen
the shins are a very sensitive area, using your momentum and the area that made the block, knee, you managed to get some good impact there....over all you should be fine, granted it hurts and will for a little while, the bruising is normal and you may even end up with a lump on your shin that will be there for awhile.....take some motrin or imuprofin, some type of anti inflamatory and as soon as you can bear the pain hop back to training! That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
delta1
We can all relate to that! Leg checks are a common block for low or riseing kicks, though taking a roundhouse on the knee is a bit risky. Why do you think it was intentional? Maybe the kick went higher than he anticipated and he tried to adjust the height of his check to compensate. Just playing devil's advocate here a bit. I wouldn't get too hung up on being angry with someone, unless he has a habit of using dangerous moves or being overbearing on juniors or smaller fighters when he spars. Then the instructor should step in and correct him. Alternatively, you could show up next sparing session with a set of grieves (medevil iron shin guards) and challenge him to a rematch! Freedom isn't free!

tommarker
10 years of soccer and 6 of karate, and my shins still hurt when I hit hard stuff, especially those bony guys who block really well with their shins. I try to knock them over with side kicks or sweep them I don't have the discipline/insanity to condition my shins to where I can break baseball bats, but I know a woman in her 40s who can, and she's only about 5'2" 120 lbs I'd rather just wear a solid pair of doc martens I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

'Cause he's one of these guys who is doesn't seem to have much respect for the girls in the class, for a start, but the main thing that made me think this was intentional was that he tried to block with his knee another 2 times after that while I could hardly walk might I add. Grr Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.
