bagpuss Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 I recently saw an old film of bruce lee performing his so called one inch punch, was this a camera trick or can we mere mortals achieve this with practice? https://www.wlsa.bravehost.com

thaiboxerken Posted October 1, 2001 Posted October 1, 2001 Lee did his one-inch punch for demonstrations. It does have an application in fighting. For demonstrations, Lee would punch a person and make them fly away. It was more of a push that he did for the demo's to dazzle the untrained crowd. When he really trained the punch though, the power would penetrate into his opponent and the opponent wouldn't fly away. The point is to do damage and if you make your opponent fly away, you have to chase him down to hit him again. The one-inch punch has application in fighting because from trapping hands a person shouldn't have to "cock" their hand back to develop power when hitting. When doing traps, there is very little distance to hit, so the 1-inch punch is developed. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.

TKD_McGee Posted October 3, 2001 Posted October 3, 2001 That was reall stuff my man, It still boggles the mind to think about how he could do it. That guy was incredibully strong, although he looked wirey. Do unto others, as they done to you.
Iron Arahat Posted October 5, 2001 Posted October 5, 2001 The "1 inch punch" is nothing new to the chinese arts, it is really just the "art" of hitting. Like Ken said it's generating power without a full draw back, and Lee's demos was essentially "pushing" a flat footed opponent for the "flying" effect. moobrack Posted October 12, 2001 Posted October 12, 2001 The one inch punch is a technique using your inner energy to produce an effective outcome. You channel all your body's chi into one punch whch takes not much phsyical movement. The way that you punch is the way that you cahnnel your Chi. Hope this helps!
