aznkarateboi Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Which style do you think is more practical for self defense? I think that Southern styles, such as Hung Gar, are more practical. This is because they emphasize a stronger foundation and focus more on hand techniques. Southern styles are also devoid of the flashy kicks and acrobatics often found in Northern styles. What do you think?

jmd161 Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 It's really just a matter of opinon. When i studied Bak Sil Lum (N.Shaolin) i could not see why anyone would want to learn a boring style like Hung Gar.Then i studied Cheung Kune Pai (Southern Longfist) and saw a whole new world in the Southern styles. Now i study Hak Fu Moon (Black Tiger) which is a mixture of both Northern and Southern China styles. So it's what works for you.The Northern styles are just as effective if used the right way as any Southern style. jeff The Basics Are The Hidden Secret To Kung Fu Master The Basics.
