Women in combat roles

There are particular roles which women are excluded from in many Armed Forces. Sometimes this is because of the physical demands of the role. However, this is rare.

The primary issue is the group's efficiency and ability to bond. Whilst diversity in general is beneficial, in particular military roles the ability of a team to perform as a unit is crucial. Because such military units are created for specific reasons to perform certain tasks it requires each member of the team to be equal both physiologically and psycho-socially.

Its not that women are not as good as men. They are just different.

Why do you think this? Why is the risk of capture greater for women?

When captured by those who do not follow the Geneva Convention and do not care about the treatment of prisoners, women may face an extremely horrific ordeal. I think we all know what I mean by that. There is also the fear that although men may not talk under torture of themselves or male comrades, they may feel inclined to do so if a women is threatened.

I had to think about that for a minute and I have to say from my experience being on an installation where there where a good 10 or more guys to every girl that many females are capable of bonding in a group the way many guys are. And there are some guys who are just as bad as fussy girls about worry about little things eveyone else forgot about being said long ago. It really comes down to the individual.

i didnt really bother to read anyones post,...because i dont like any of you... (j/k) but heres my opinion and if its already been said than oh well, read it anyway, because i took time out of my dramaticly important life to write it!

Fenis is right! so :P

women should have to do the same things men do. discrimination? how about now! the reason we are all trained the same is because if we become prisoners of war we will all be treated the same? the enemy sure as hell isnt going to give you a break on the battlefield because your a woman, so why on earth would we give you a break in training? the only person that youd be hurting by supporting such a break is you! because its you a*s thats getting blown off under fire, not mine because you were not trained properly. the exersise and fitness levels demanded of basic training are those that will be demanded of you on the battlefield. end of story. so i dont care if your male female, nueder, a-sexual, black, white, yellow, purple or green, if you can cut it like everyone else has to you dont belong on the line!

as my boss loves to say "Boom Baby!...Just like that."

oh, one other thing id like to clear up. somebody said something like 'the only girl on a ship underwater for six months' as a sailor i wanted to make a note to all of you that submarines do not ingage on tours for six months the only ships that are even capable of such a feat are air Craft Cariiears, Gator transport units, guided missle crusiers, hospital ships, frigets, and destroyers.

It really comes down to the individual.

Perhaps. Although I've had military training, I don't know a lot about the special forces. I agree it does depend on the situation, and I think perhaps the thinking is that in very-high pressure, high-demand situations that the male individuals in those units may have subconscious issues with a female member. Again not necessarily because they aren't as good but because they are different. Our sexuality is an incredibly influencing factor on how we think.

There is the issue with physical ability, but again I suspect that the units that have a real need for specific fitness would not have different requirements for men and women.

As for the submarine issue, thats a different, yet related issue. Again its not the ability of the woman that in question. Its the effect it may have on the abilities of the men.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the thinking, just what I suspect it is.

you have a point. You see, Air Craft Carriers work just fine with women, but heres why:

1. its like a frakin floating city!

2. they port plenty so guys have a chance to...umm...do whatever they need to do away from the ships personel.

3. its easy for MAA units to imobilize disorderly conduct, were as if something goes down on a sub, its hard for the MAAs to control the situation, and you cant surface to send someone home because youd risk national security but allowing a submarine, the spy plane of the water world, to reveal itself.

Yes, female prisoners are tortured and raped. So are male prisoners.

If a person of either sex is willing to face this risk, and they meet all

the necessary qualifications, let them.

Then the problem is with them, not the woman.
