Fenris-wolf
What do ya'll think of this? Being female, I definately am supportive of this. I now know that women in New Zealand are allowed to do anything (bar special forces) in the Navy in NZ, but last time I looked (sometime last year) we weren't in the Army. Anyways. My point was why do we make it easier for women to get into the armed forces? This makes no sense. It's like a young man who's a bit small for his age being allowed in because otherwise it's discrimination. I mean ! Silly... All's fair in love and war, and no-one in the enemy forces is going to go soft on you cause you're a girl. It's dangerous for the woman and her workmates. Honestly, why is logic such a difficult prospect for government offices?! If a woman can pass all the same tests as a man -anything that's applicable to their job, anyway-, she should be accepted. If she can't, she shouldn't. Love to hear your opinions. Let Us Turn The Jump Rope In Accord With Socialist Principles!
SaiFightsMS
My opinions now are the same in some respects on this topic and different in some than they were when I was 18 and in the army.
G95champ
As long as they meet the standards set then I have no problem with it. Yeah it may be less than men but at the same time its pretty good. There are many things each can do as well as the other. However there are certin jobs that men need to do just because of the risk of capature such as Sp Forces work. Correct me if Im wrong but I don't think women can but on Sub crews. Again for obvious reasons the only girl on a ship for 6 months would be way to popular. LOL (General George S. ninjanurse
I do not believe that the standards or requirements should be changed for women in any way. If they want the job they should have to be able to perform it as well as the next guy. If they can't then they don't deserve to be there. Period. karate_woman
I do not believe that the standards or requirements should be changed for women in any way. If they want the job they should have to be able to perform it as well as the next guy. If they can't then they don't deserve to be there. Period. I agree. My ex was in the Canadian Army Reserve and he and a few others were ORDERED to carry the women's packs (in addition to their own) on a forced march while in basic training. He said at one point in the march even the rifles became too heavy for the women so they weren't even carrying their rifles! I think the standards have changed again since then (1992), though. They were in a communications/radio operator troup so the job they were doing involved a lot of sitting at desks, but still! If the standards were deemed too high for what was needed for the position, then they should have been changed across the board for that position, in my opinion. If on the other hand the standards are appropriate and someone can't cut it then they need to fail. It leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those ordered to pick up the slack, otherwise. Fenris-wolf
Eugh. It also means any woman who does attempt to pull her own weight isn't going to be believed by anybody who's witnessed the strange counter-sexism in the armed forces. Shorin Ryuu
As a member of the military, I believe that for every job in the armed forces, there should be a minimum physical level that is the same for both men and women and for more strenuous jobs like infantry, there should be a single test regardless of gender. And regardless of gender, if you fail that test, you should not be allowed to do it and if you pass it, you should likewise be able to do it. Defending your country isn't about being politically correct, it is about defending your country. That all being said, I'm all in favor of women in the military, I just think there should be a physical standard that everyone should conform to, regardless of gender and it should be the skill and ability that determines it all.
