Hi guys,

Im looking for a new first car and well I need some help! I want something small, economical, cheap to insure and cheap to buy too! Ideally I'd love a VW golf but cant afford one! :kaioken:

Ive been looking at Seat Arosa (they're my number 1 choice at the moment), Peugeot 106, Renault Clio, VW polo and a few others. Can anyone suggest a good first car or possibly give me some info on the above cars i've been looking at? :-?

Cheers guys!

Hiya Joanne. Well I am certainly no expert, but IMO........

Seat Arosa - good choice, nice alternative to Polo

Peugeot 106 - nice stylish car with lots of cred

Renault Clio - I had a bad experiance and will never buy another Renault

VW Polo - Would be my choice, style, excellent residuals, v.reliable

Oh but the car I would choose given the choice in this sector would be a lovely little Yaris. Superb reliability, excellent residuals, some street cred, the Yaris just does it for me 8)

Are you buying brand new or second hand?

Parkers online service https://www.parkers.co.uk is an excellent source for car details and they also produce a buyers guide in the form of price guides and car details which you can buy at a paper shop.

I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"

I have looked into yaris, they were a bit expensive for what they are, and they are ugly inside! Well thats my opinion anyway!

Are they? I don't really know just seen them nipping about and looking sweet, always thought to myself that I wouldn't mind one as a little runaround.

Okay then with that in mind I would go with the Polo. Nice looking, good residuals, excellent build. A friend of mine has a lovely little black one which she loves, but like you she would like a Golf

The Seat Arosa is a good alternative to the Polo as I believe that it is basically the same car but with a different body. Probably cheaper than a Polo so you will get more car for your money. Depreciation on Seats aren't as good as Volkswagons but if you're getting it on HP and giving it back after 3 years then that won't really be a concern.

Test drive all the cars you like, see who is going to give you a great deal and then you can make an educated decision, but I doubt that it will be an easy one :D

Remember though at the end of the day 'it is just a car'

A VW Jetta is a Golf (mk3'ish) with a boot.

The 1.4 TDI is a superb unit, so I have read. The VW Polo has a 1.4 TDI sport which is the model that I would go for.

The Diesel is quite quick, very, very frugal and you still get the cheaper road tax :D A very good choice me thinks

Sorry Joanne I have been mistaking the Polo for the Lupo, but everthing still applies.

Chosen yet?
