White Warlock
I know, I've trained itHmm... for how long... and with whom? Wing chun, if developed and if instructed by a 'competent' instructor/practitioner, is very effective. I have friends in the police department, working the streets every day, that vouch for its effectiveness. Let's try not to bash other systems without sufficient knowledge. I noted your pic (in the other thread) and you're really not old enough, and likely not experienced enough, to give such blatantly disrespectful comments about a system hundreds of thousands of people apply every day in 'real' life-threatening occupations (as opposed to just picking up on chicks ). Here's a bit of information on wing chun (and most traditional Chinese systems). Training is slow. You spend the first three years just learning eye-hand coordination, undergoing a multitude of drills to train your mind and body in using muscles long-since dormant, and in ways seemingly unnatural. Systems like kickboxing give far more immediate applicability, but don't make the assumption that short-term satisfaction beats out long-term. The truth is, if you start with a proper base, you're going to be better off... in the long run. soul fighter
My Sensei made us learn Wing Chun with our Jiu Jitsu, but we just trained the punches and pivoting. Recently, he dropped it from our program. I think that Boxing/Kickboxing is MUCH more effective Man, a few years ago, I tried to use Wing Chun punches in a fight, and I got beat. But now with a more mobile system (I'm learning striking in my Japanese Jiu Jitsu class), I can just smack someone around, move, smack them more, move, etc By the way, I haven't gotten into any fights since I got beat THE MASTER OF THE WORLD'S FINEST!!SOUL SONIC STYLE!! Drunken Monkey
so what you are saying is that you did some moves that looked like wing chun. oops, not moves, just punches... the fact that you say that wing chun isn't mobile shows that you have very limited knowledge in it. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." SevenStar
LOL, they probably only learned to chain punch and callied it wing chun. I prefer MT over WC based on my experiences in both, but the blatant generalizations that soul is making are wrong. Also, WW is right - most CMA styles take longer to learn by design. That's why sport fighters can produce a competent fighter in a shorter amount of time. However, that doesn't mean that these styles are not effective. Rich_2k3
If you want self defence then definatley choose wing chun, if you want sport and fitness choose kickboxing. Wing chun is geared more towards short, powerful punches and relatively low kicks, it also utilizes pressure points. kickboxing on the other hand is lots of powerful kicks and dodging is preferred over blocking. Kickboxing is fought in the ring, with boxing style rules, except u are usually deducted points if u don't use a minimum amount of kicks in each round which is set by the judges. Kickboxing is usually always full-contact Just so you know, Wing Chun was the art that Bruce Lee mastered before he went on to create his own art, Jeet Kun do. Rich_2k3
Let's face it, buddy Wing Chun is not an effective martial art It lacks mobility I know, I've trained it By the way, this person is iggnorent, and as u can see he's recieved abit of abuse, for good reasons. Wing Chun is renouned as an effective and technical martial art. Kickboxing/boxing wont get u anywhere for self defence, cuz there sports and all the techniques are based around rules and the condentdors wearing large gloves. They do however give u a good workout, especially boxing. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
Drunken Monkey
whoa.... and what you say about kickboxing/boxing isn't ignorant? just so you know. bruce was far from mastering wing chun when he left for the states. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." White Warlock
He's ignorant, you're ignorant, i'm ignorant... we're all ignorant... of one thing or another. Ignorance isn't a problem, but being ignorant of your ignorance can be.
