battousai16 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 i will admit, it's been awhile, maybe i'll watch it again to give you the benefit of the doubt. but from memory it was just plain awful. the first half of die another day was awsome, it was really looking up to be one of the best. but the second half just got stupid. and they kept using bullet time at random points in the movie, and it looked awkward and confusing. i was thoroughly dissapointed. and what's with that ending!?! Bond: i'm still not convinced you're good Jynx: i am sooooooo good Bond: But only when you're bad !?! come on, Bond! you can do better than that! fireka Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 granted, but actaully i found the ending stupiudly entertaining. i here there making a series based on jinxx's character. i wasnt crazy about the suit, but the altered apperance and everything, the plot over all, i liked it. the reason i think it will be a classic is because they developed a lot of characters more. for one thing, Bond, now that he has been captured without really escaping for a long time now, appears more human to us, and we might even be able to conect with him as a character instead of treat him like an invinsible god like person. Money penny, of couse i refer to the similation scene, R, who we didnt really like very much untill Die Another Day because we were still morning the loss of Q (god rest his soul, wondeful actor) and of course we learned to hate M that much more, and we loved every second of it. just an intresting note you guys might find pretty cool, i actually have permission from MGM to use one of there bond songs in one of my own stories, the contract is in whats called a 'pending process' which means when the series is finnished, royalties will be further discussed, but innitially i have ther permission. The song is, naturally, Tina Turner's 'Goldeneye'. im using it because its lyrics use a lot of parallel symbolism with my work, and also i have this little continuing trend with the season premeres of this series im writing, but i won't get into that here. battousai16 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 see, but all of that character development happened in the first half! R, btw, is very cool, just because he's john cleese. do you get any cooler than that? only if you're Q himself. also, it's cool when bond is invincible and god like. when he just walks in and out of the enemy base with the theme playing in the back round. i just find a big grin on my face everytime that happens! i mean, it's cool that he was finally captured for so long, and that MI6 for once didn't trust him and he rebelled again, because license to kill was my least favorite, easily, but... yeah. the second half... they just went to far, tried to hard to appeal to the young generation. monkeygirl Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 I liked Die Another Day because I was able to accept one fact: James Bond movies are never 100% great. My major problem with Die Another Day was Jinx...she annoyed me. However, this movie really reminded me of how great Pierce Brosnan is. I think he's like, the second best James Bond ever (first place of course being reserved for Sean Connery). But that's just me 1st dan & Asst. fireka Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 Monkey, i agree with you on everything, except for jinxx, in my opinion Jinxx is among the best bond girls ever. your right, to up there about it being cool when he is god like, license to kill wasnt great (Living day lights was worse though) however i think we do need little reminders of the fact that the only reason he is so good is his training and a born talent, but he isnt perfect which i think Die another Day did. i see were your coming from with the younger generation bit, its real evident if you look at the sound track: ie, the bond theme remix which sounds like some of that prep bull you heard on fast and the furious. \ you know what i find funny? Dr. No sucked really but no one, not even me, will say anything bad about it because it was the birth of the legend. BTW didnt they do the movies way out of order with the original stories? i mean wasnt the first one actually like, In her majesties secret service or something? battousai16 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 nah, i'm with monkeygirl on this one. i couldn't stand jinx either. if they were gonna make her all bad @$$, they can't make her useless! the movie would have been a good 20-30 minutes shorter if she didn't keep getting captured and if he didn't have to keep going after her. she was just like any other bond girl, only she had a gun. my favorite is natalya from goldeneye. she WASN'T useless, even when she was captured she was still doing stuff, and, IMO, she was the most attractive of all of them. and what are you talking about? i think dr. no was a great movie! i think you're right. i can never make that one in one sitting i don't know the book order. i just pick them up when i see one at the library. i think i own one, too, but i never got around to reading it. i have to many books for my own good. fireka Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 i agree goldeneye had a great bond girl, of the Pirce Bronson movies Goldeneye was definitly the best as well. my favorite bond girl though? umm, she is a good one, i dont know i have to think about which one was my favoritei thought Christmas from The world is Not enough was pretty cool, but she reminded to much of Lara Croft. battousai16 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 no way, denise richards is a terrible actress and her character was far to whiney. i didn't like her. at all. pretty, though. still, not enough to make up for her wooden hollow lines, her whininess, and her insistence that she was brilliant and could do everything her self, and then bond would have to run in and save her. SBN Doug Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 I don't know. I still like Barbara Bach , regardless of the story. The one I hate, I mean absolutely HATE is whichever one had Timothy Dalton. Was that License to Kill? Uhhhhhhhhhhh, he made Bond seem like such a wuss. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
battousai16 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 i absolutely hated license to kill too. gah, what an awful movie still, i believe george lazenby is the only bond to ever cry, and a lot of people think he was the wussiest. i never thought so, i'd personally cry if my wife was killed in my arms, but yeah. to each his own.
