Does anybody know about the history of the karate uniform?

I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"

I got the 1924 tape of G. Funakoshi and they are training in well (underware) a lot.

I can't wait to read Sai's link cause I don't know.

I know Funakoshi got the idea of color belts from Judo.

So when people to the micky out of me for running around a hall in a pair of pyjamas they might not be far from the truth

Okay. So does anybody know the history of a Judo gi?

I prefer the TKD tops myself. Although I have never worn one. But the idea of the sides being sewn rather than open appeals to me.

The gi IMO is just a stem from the basic clothing worn in Asia.

The short pants....while not stylish IMHO  and the jacket are very much still available today as normal wear.

These older styles are still worn in rural areas here in asia and always on special occasions.

I think you will find the gi just came from the regular clothes..white and a little heaver material to train in.
