Angus Posted September 29, 2001 Posted September 29, 2001 Crosstraining... There is a contant argument that people who only stick to one style of martial arts are simply cheating themselves and are not serious martial artists. I wouldn't go so far as to make the statement above myself, but i do think crosstraining is a wise move when it comes to serious self-defense. Crosstraining can also be good if u r faced with multiple attackers. if u trained simply in a grappling art the chances are that if u take one guy to the ground or lock him up, the other guy is gonna smack u in the head. Conversely if u only train in a striking art and come across a better striker than u then u might be wishing that u had done some grappling. It's a bit of a vague topic but open for discussion nonetheless. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
kicker Posted September 29, 2001 Posted September 29, 2001 um.... well i would change the moves a bit if i didnt like it or if it was confusing i always do that but the problem is when you are in class and your teacher is telling you how to do it the right way!!! I hate that!!! when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
bagpuss Posted September 29, 2001 Posted September 29, 2001 in my eyes cross training is good, but it is hard to remember all the styles of self defence. I would use one good style ie: shotokan karate it is one of the best forms of the art. thanks bagpuss https://www.wlsa.bravehost.com

Angus Posted September 30, 2001 Author Posted September 30, 2001 U don't have to fight in one style dude, u integrate them all and turn them into your own unique style. I stand like a kickboxer sometimes, but other times i have a low guard and still fight like a kickboxer. I might do jiujitsu moves from a kickboxer's pose, it's all different stuff. bagpuss Posted September 30, 2001 Posted September 30, 2001 Angus what is your main style of martial art man? from bagpuss8) Quote: be dedicated, be motivated and be on a quest to be your best. USS!! https://www.wlsa.bravehost.com

Angus Posted September 30, 2001 Author Posted September 30, 2001 Um.... i don't really have a BASE BASE BASE style. I've done Zendokai karate, BJJ, Freestyle Kickboxing, Goju Ryu Karate, HapKiDo, Wushu, Boxing... i think that's all. I try to base myself on the HapKiDo teachings (cos it's a pretty well rounded martial art) but i'd say i'm more of a freestyle kickboxer. I'm currently back at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu though, cos i love grappling. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Bon Posted October 1, 2001 Posted October 1, 2001 (edited) ::edit:: Edited September 29, 2002 by Bon It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
Angus Posted October 1, 2001 Author Posted October 1, 2001 Absolutely Bon... strikers generally have a hard time against grapplers, so if u can't beat 'em, join 'em! Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
