eanels68
Does anyone know if the traditonal karate or Taekwondo will give me more of a workout while training. I am also trying to lose weight while taking MA, but have not decided which one yet. Please let me know, especially if someone is taking that style
telsun
Are you currently active? If you are not very active at the moment you will find that any kind of training will help you. It also depends on the dojo/ dojang that you join. I have practiced T-karate for many years and the clubs have all varied. The one I train at now has a strong empthasis on fitness. If you already have a couple of styles in mind I think that the best way to discover which one is for you is to try them. You will know which one you wish to practice. Good luck! I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
ninjanurse
I agree with Telsun that it can vary by dojo but I think generally either style should give you the opportunity for a great workout but remember, either way, you will only get out of it what you put in. I would visit a few schools and observe their classes. Also take a look at their Dan holders-what kind of shape are they in? aznkarateboi
i think karate is better. tae kwon do has too much emphasis on kicks. karate is more balanced
Shotokan_Fighter
go with karate, karate is a overall better art than tae kwon do. karate is better for self defense and physical exersise, what style of karate do you have in your town? Radok
Oh yeah. Karate's better. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate. battousai16
hmmm... that's intereting, young martial girl. perhaps you could explain it? because i recall hearing you say, and i quote: "Well, I guess I have to repeat again: T H E R E I S N O B E S T M A R T I A L A R T" that said, how come there can be no best martial art but what can still be elevated from the rest? not to be disrespectful or rude, just curious as to your take on this. telsun
Well there obviously aren't many, if any, TKD practitioners on this forum True TKD is very practical and not just about Olympic type fighting. I have trained at both types and they both have something to offer. I believe there to be 2 major associations ITF and WTF. I think that it is the ITF that is the more practical of the 2 but that is not to dismiss the other. My friend was in the army and trained TKD with the Gurka's his TKD was of course extremely practical. By dismissing the TKD club completely just on the recommendation of others would be a big mistake. You could be missing out on something that you would be loving. Your reason for asking which to choose was due fitness not due to practical fighting skill, EITHER art may suit you on this basis, or any other basis for that matter . As battousai16 has said " There is no best Martial Art". And like I said before. If you have 2 clubs in mind then go and try them, it really is the only way you are going to find out which style it is that YOU WANT to do. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
aznkarateboi
To say that all martial arts are equal is pure ignorance. Basically your saying that Sensei Slim will use his Tae Kwon Do and do just as well in the UFC's as a Muay Thai practitioner. There is no best martial art, but that is only because different martial arts were made for different purposes. TKD is not good for self defense.
