granmasterchen Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Is the back fist useless in combat or is it a great tool? I had an instructor that claimed several black belts, 2 forms of karate, kickboxing, 13 weapons system, thai boxing, and an aerobics instructor....... this man also claimed to be an 8th degree in at least one style, i think it was okinawan karate... well he told me that the back fist was useless in combat I was always trained in my original school that the back fist was a great tool in combat over the years with my fights i have found my answer....... i truely believe this guy was the mcdojo master of the world...... i have a great story about this plus many fights involving the back fist but i will hold off on them what is your opinion on the backfist? That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Martial_Artist Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 It's a weapon that works. But like all weapons isn't meant to be used for every single situation. If the opportunity presents itself for a backfist, then a backfist works. I have used it. It's just the same as almost any other technique. There is a time and place for its execution. SBN Doug Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 IMO backfist is great. There are a number of grabs we counter a hand strike with, that makes a backfist an easy and fast mode of attack. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
G95champ Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I love it.... Bruce Lee felt it was one of the best weapons as well. So if Bruce liked it, it had to be good right. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
telsun Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Yeah I'm with everyone else on this one. So effective with so little effort. So you gonna tell us a story granmasterchen? I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
granmasterchen Posted July 2, 2003 Author Posted July 2, 2003 well this "8th dan master" was telling me how ineffective the back fist was.....i was polite and said ok, later he said my punches were sloppy(which i really have alot of pride for) so i was offended but said ok, (he was jealous b/c i was faster), plus i noticed that every time he threw a punch he closed his eyes! well the class went on for awhile and everything i did seemed to offend him, nothing i did would be good for a streetfight, so one day infront of his class, and another class that was waiting in the loby, he was determinded to make an example out of me....he challenged me to a sparring match.....well i waited for him in the center of the floor, he threw a punch and closed his eyes, so when he closed i side stepped and threw a back fist to his head(useless tech), then he puched again, another side step with another back fist(useless) and then a third time(still useless),,,,,well that was the whole match....i truely believe that this guy didn't know what he was talking about and got his 8th dan out of a box of cracker jacks....it was a terrible mcdojo,.....when i had sparred him i had over 12 yrs experience with mixed martial arts.....i later opened up a class in the same area, and many of his former students came to learn off of me......i only used one tech on him, the backfist, yet it is useless, says the 8th dan grandmaster of mcdojos..... That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
G95champ Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Well the 8th Dan should have told you a lot unless he was 80 years old. 5th or 6th is as high as any avg. person can get in all reality. Lots of times it not how much you know its how much you understand. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
granmasterchen Posted July 2, 2003 Author Posted July 2, 2003 i realised that many things were wrong, but i just wanted to see if i could learn anything new, i try to go to every martial arts place, every where i go....i really didn't learn anything there though, oh well it makes a fun story, the guy was probably in his 40s or 50s maybe older, but he wasn't what he said he was.... That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
G95champ Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Yeah I do the same. I usually go into clubs and asking about signing up to see what types of lines they feed me. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
granmasterchen Posted July 2, 2003 Author Posted July 2, 2003 i have realised now after seeing many classes and different schools what to look for, unfortunately there are not too many good schools in the world any more, so you should all be proud of your schools and instructors! That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
