Treebranch Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 The news reported this weekend that a former employee of a Savon supermarket in Irvine California walked in with a Samurai type sword and killed 2 employees and injured 3. He was said to have been off his medication for Schizophrenia. People that worked there always felt he was strange and that he might go off one day. I felt very scared for those people and I thanked God that I didn't have to see that. I also am glad that I study MA, cause you never know when something like that may happen. Who would have thought. granmasterchen Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 one thing that scares me is, the fact that i train hard to be the best, what would happen if i went crazy one day, ...i think that would be scary, i am glad that i have no mental problems though....lets hope none of us develope any either That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Radok Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 my opinion is spare as little thought to it as possible to the voices. That way they dont drive you crazy. Shutup, Mike. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
Treebranch Posted July 3, 2003 Author Posted July 3, 2003 According to the article he was a long time fan of Highlander and collected the swords. I don't think he was a Martial Artist of any kind. I would hope that Martial Arts would give one the discipline and develop one's character as to cope with trying situations. I see my training as an outlet as oppose to actual violent behavior. Not that I'm violent or anything. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"

Fenris-wolf Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 I would hope that Martial Arts would give one the discipline and develop one's character as to cope with trying situations. The only problem with that is that Schizophrenia is not something you can "train" away. It is a chemical imbalance and a horrible thing to live with. With the help of medication you can hope to live a normal life, but it not something you can will away. I don't really know enough about mental illness to give many facts, but I felt compelled to point that out. Let Us Turn The Jump Rope In Accord With Socialist Principles!
fireka Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 non scense Fenris, anything can be wield away or at least into ressison, you should know that. why our own saifights is a great example. but its difficult, i dont blame anyone for unsuccess. Fenris-wolf Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 OK, I'm sorry, do you struggle with a mental disability? Dyslexia does not count -you yourself said it was a gift. Finding reading difficult is not equatible with not being able to control yourself completely. Hearing voices, not being able to distinguish dreams from reality. A million other mind-fucks that you would only otherwise get on drugs. I'm sorry, but that comment reeks of hypocrisy! P.S. I'm not attacking you, I'm attacking your statements. fireka Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 not at all, the devils advocate approach is very attractive i don't feel atacked. which is why i harmed myself with my close to home example, has sai not been succesful thous far? or do you not consider MS to be a formidable opponet?
