telsun
Should we only train impact training and partner work? What are the advantages of training in punching and kicking the air? I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
G95champ
People don't hit and you can work on your speed without fear of hitting someone. Both need to be done IMO... (General George S. telsun
I can practice speed on the bag, with more benefits(?) I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
Treebranch
You can practice where ever you are at anytime when you practice by punching and kicking in the air. I think impact training and partner work are crucial to any MA. telsun
both are good to doBesides the training alone bit, which is a very valid point. Why are they both good to do? granmasterchen
in the air is good to build skill, that way when you hit hard targets you don't injure yourself, in the air is alot more convenient and can be performed anywhere, it is also good to start building for speed, once you are hitting something you can verify if your skill was correct depending on the hardness of the material, then you can build speed on hitting substance, and work combos as you can in the air, here it is easier to see the results of your power, yet i believe that both are important to do, the air is just alot more convenient, if i always had a hard bag or some material that i wanted to hit at the time available when ever i wanted that would be something to consider but i don't..... GreenDragon
Just be careful when doing it in the air to not fully strike all the way out to full extension with full power. Without something to offer restistance before full extension you run the risk of hyperextension. This is easy to do over time without even noticing it and can lead to karate elbow (tennis elbow, tendonitis). When doing it in the air try to stop your stikes just short of full extension (elbow still very slightly bent).
