proper foot work and stances are a key element to standing, getting momentum for strikes and balance, it should always be practiced with your training

you don't want to be the guy that throws a big punch, misses and falls down b/c he had a bad stance, you don't want to kick and fall b/c the other foot wasn't planted well, key element if you are doing stand up fighting, very very important

Its key. Watch good boxers they have great footwork thats why they jump so much rope. To be a good striker you got to avoid the shoot. One way you can do that is to never be in the same place counter step and strike. A person with quick feet in any sport or activety will do much better. Shifing, Stance, Balance, Cordination are key....

(General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."

A good stance is the basis for everything else, so I'd say a fair ammount of time should be devoted to doing them properly.

That summs it up nicely. Stances and footwork are everything. Your power is primarily generated through stance changes. Your ballance is in your stance. Footwork allows you to evade or attack. Footwork and stances combined position you and allign you to enhance accuracy. Without stance and footwork training, why bother to learn to strike? My advice is either learn stances and footwork or take up chess. There's no middle ground. Just my $2,000,000.00 worth!

One guy, who knows his stuff, told me to learn quickly you must get the footwork down first. I have have noticed that it makes a huge difference in learning new material and keeping up with the old. As another training partner says, "It's all in the footwork". Hey, it works for me. Good luck!

I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.

Well, my post will be short. :D

I agree with everything stated thus far.

I concur... I admit that I am constantly working on better stances and that my footwork needs improvement.
