Shotokan_Fighter Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 iv ben doing shotokan and im interested in Kyokushin also, and i know nothing about it at all, so what are the similaritys and differences in the 2 styles, iv herd shotokan and kyokushin are the 2 best fighting styles of karate. "When I fight, I fight with my heart, and soul. My heart, and soul is Shotokan Karate."Shotokan_fighters creed"karate has to come natural in a fight, if you have to think about using karate in a fight, you will loose the fight"3rd kyu brown belt - shotokan karate
aznkarateboi Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 i already posted this... look in the comparitive martial arts section
Sho-ju Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 It's worlds apart yet they have similar kata. Kyokushin is full contact fun and shotokan is KKK fun. Shotokan is great all round but if you want to push yourself start fighting full contact leg kicks and all and then you'll see how good your karate is.
telsun Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 iv herd shotokan and kyokushin are the 2 best fighting styles of karate.I have never heard this! I do not belief it to be true, but I do agree that both styles may prove to be effective given the right amount of study. Although I maybe mistaken (I will read the comparative M/A section in a mo) Kyokushin is pretty much a mix between Goju and Shotokan, from my experience I would say that the Goju side reflects more in the Kyokushin style. The best way to find out is to DO it!!!!!! I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
Kirves Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 Well, the other thread on this issue was closed by the mods, even though there remained an open question, so please, could someone post a link to the official Shotokan/JKA (not any AAU or their kin) tournament kumite rules? Please?
