LoneWolf Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 Whetrying to chose a martial art, many peaple question to them selves the same question: "Wich is best, Karate or Judo?". I saw many documentaries saying that karate is best then Judo, but others say that since these are very disticting martial arts, theres no one beter than the other. Since i only practice Karate, i dont know the answer to this question. Can anybody write what you think about this? (sorry about spell mistakes, im not american) LoneWolf Cry in the dojo, laught on the battelfield.
SBN Doug Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 Don't be concerned about your spelling. However, our guidlines do not allow for asking "which is best", as it tends to start bad feelings between users, and it is usually a subjective opinion only. You may ask how one is different from the other, or what each art's strengths and weaknesses are, however. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Blade Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 I don't consider any one art to be better than another. They all have pros and cons. Take the art you like and don't worry about what other people think
BudoKaiMéxico Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 There r no better art...only better fighter Ilich Miguel Torres Fong 2nd Dan Shito kai Central America & Caribbean Confederation of Karate Kumite Judge Monterrey, México Im open to learn & talk about any MA or Style (all are great)
major_motoko Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 If you have time, why not do both? Karate will teach you punches and kicks, Judo will teach you throws and grapples (I know that is an overly simplified description of the two arts, but you get the idea) Both will keep you fit, teach you self-discipline and give you a good mix of techniques to defend yourself with. Plus if you are the competing type, it will give you two types of tournaments to enter! motoko 2nd Kyu Brown Belt, Wado Ryu Karate-do"Daniel-san best karate still inside!" Mr Myagi
Kirves Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Draeger once said, if he had to choose between a karateka and a judoka, which one he'd rather take with him to a dark alley (where they might be attacked by some people), he said judoka.
telsun Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Both arts have their advantages and indeed knowing both would be extremely beneficial That's why I have taken up Jujitsu, to complement my karate. I have been lead to believe that many arts derived from JJ, including karate and judo. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
Kensai Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Lone Wolf, your not typing American your typing English, remember that. Aikido is superior to them both, and for a very simple reason, BECAUSE I SAY SO!!!! MWMWMWMWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Another good point is that there is NO Karate is traditional Japanese Jujutsu, as they were developed hundreds of miles away from each other. Its clear to see that Karate was mainly influenced by the southern Chinese Styles, were as Jujutsu was influenced by Shaolin Chin Na. From my own experiences with Shotokan Karate and Judo, I prefer Judo. Thats my preference and in no way defaceing the Karate community. They are both cool arts, but you might prefer one over the other.
Beer-monster Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Karate and Jiu-jitsu may have developed seperately but they came from the same source Fujian White Crane. But they must have had some influenec on each other. I'm with Major, if you have time do both. Like telsun I do both TJJ and karate am very happy. Aikido is good too, however I would learn a few strikes to go with it. Too much defence can be bad. Sometimes the best thing is to hit hard, hit fast and hit first. Mind, body and fist. Its all a man truly needs.
telsun Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Oh so karate did not come from JJ, I didn't think that was right. Judo definately did though Dr.Jigaro Kano I believe we have to thank. The funny thing is although JJ and karate do not come from the same source (or do they, see above) I can happily slip JJ into my karate training and noone can tell any difference The advantages of cross training I guess. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
