Ninja Kl0wn Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 So, let me get this straigh here kle1n. You doubt the effectiveness of muay Thai because, after two years of training in the art yourself, you "beat" a guy in sparring? And after those two years of training in muay Thai, you can sit there with a straight face and say muay Thai is nothing but kicks and punches? You know, in most forums people like you are considered "trolls".
unknown Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 take a leg kick at full force from a muay thai fighter and then you will know what they are talking about. muay thai fighters have proved their skills time and time again! i've seen many tapes of different styles going up against muay thai and many of the time the MT fighters punish their opponants
Icetuete Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 i think the idea behind this threat was to find out what makes a muay thai kick+punch combo better than a savate kick+punch combo for example. in savate there are no joint locks and stuff as well (at least as far as i am concerned) and it is much like kickboxing. so why is muay thai considered more effecitve? at least that was what i hoped to get answered here.
Thuggish Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 basically, muay thai is known for the hardest kicks in the world. the way they kick and train for the kicks and condition for the kicks makes them kick you as if they were swinging a baseball bat. then there's the rest of the brutal tecnhiques they use- elbows and so on. i mean, except for the no punch face and no kick below belt rule, tkd is close to kickboxing- but it just doesnt compare. a broken arm throws no punches
Icetuete Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 so whats making MT so effecitve is the brutalness? many other arts invole real hard kicks. savate for instance came up in the streets of paris. they kicked each other with shoes and in the streets there certainly are no ruls. savate is a combination out of the french kicktechniques and british boxing and so can be regarded as both effective and brutal. so why is MT considered so effective while savate is hardly known on this forum?
TJS Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 because Savate does not have huge succes in mixed events like MT does. you see alot of "savate" champions but thats usually MT fighters that enter savate competitions and rack up some wins
Icetuete Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 good peace of info @ TJS!! so how comes that savate doesnt have succes and muay thai does? and how come noone notices that u r MT and not savate? are they so similar? if so - again: why is savate regarded as not as effective as MT?
Fenris-wolf Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 it just has kicking and punching but no joint locks. really makes me wonder. and why are most muay thai fighter so arrogant? i have already won against a muay thai fighter in sparring because he was * in sparring. why do people consider it effective? Alright, I can see where you're coming from, because I have witnessed some arrogance from Muay Thai fighters on this site (I hope I wasn't one of them ). But in the "real world" I have yet to meet anyone who is! Sure, we love our art and naturally we all feel very good about how we perform in the ring, but we never abuse other arts in order to boost our self-esteem. I personally have a lot of respect for practictioners (sp??) of other styles. (By the way when I say "we" I am mostly referring to the people at my dojo.) What I do not appreciate is that in order to make your point about "arrogant" Muay Thai fighters you feel the need to be arrogant yourself. We have many weapons, yes punches and kicks but also knees and elbows. If you bet a Muay Thai fighter that proves you are the better fighter, not that your style is superior. (I do not like using the words "superior" or "inferior" as they are a little strong, but I'm sure you understand my meaning.) So in conclusion I would appreciate it if you would consider your wording a little more carefully before making broad generalisations! Let Us Turn The Jump Rope In Accord With Socialist Principles!

TKD cant be compared to a form of kickboxing, especially Muay Thai, only because the kicks are completely different. An excellent analogy was used in this forum which said " A Muay Thai kick is like swinging a baseball bat. A TKD kick is like whipping a wet towel." TKD can not be compared to a kickbowing form.
