yeah, i feel really really bad for mr. abdul jabar right now. he's a talented basketball player, and an apparently excellent martial artist, and helped to create one of the greatest fight scenes in movie history, especially THEN, for the time, when martial arts hadn't really been around in the US that long, and he's remembered as"that, um... basketball guy". i hope if i ever get my 15 minutes of fame, people will at least refer to me as "ben" or "that wineke guy" or something like that. i dunno, just a thought.

Y'know, I always strive to make thought-provoking posts...but I didn't think I'd provoke these kinds of thoughts!

Don't feel bad, Mr. Abdul Jabar! I just don't have a large knowledge of famous athletes! Even my knowledge of famous martial artists is fairly limited. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'd forget my own name if I didn't have to write it every day. :o

Oh and thanks, Martial_Artist. :D

Thanks for the comments guys and gals.I think I was just a little miffed that night after sparing. The last person that I sparred with with our head instructor and he handled me quite well. :) When I went to take of my gear the other people that I sparred with let me know that they were happy that someone pushed me around alittle because I was too tall.

I might have been a little sensitive from their joy at my sore ribs :brow:

I feel alittle better now that I've had time to think about it and I realize there is no malice in their words. It probably is a little frustrating having someone kick you from across the room. :brow:

I think I just need to relax and just have fun because thats why I joined in the first place.

Thanks again,

I have been in TKD for only two months now, and watching all the high-belts fight and train, the shorter are always faster. It was my impression that they had the advantage- they could get inside and kick before my long leg has even reached them. I am 6'2", and lean.

So is taller better? Are there pros/cons for both short and tall? Which is the best?

I wouldn't really worry about which is better, short or tall, because your options for changing your own height are extremely limited. Although it is not technically impossible to have your height altered through cosmetic surgery, I imagine the time spent in recovery would be better spent practicing.
