The Tall Bamboo Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I'm not saying try and turn into a Mini Me Hulk but why not hitting the weight room some?Just work on your basic multijoint exercises.Squat, benchpress, cling and jerk and bent over rows.I believe that would go a long way to helping you to. Just a though a little cross training wouldn't hurt to supplement your classes. Gene Green BeltChoong SillTae Kwon Dohttp://www.whitetigeracademy.com/
Beer-monster Posted June 26, 2003 Author Posted June 26, 2003 Good idea, let me take my space age growth forumla. Mind, body and fist. Its all a man truly needs.
HulkHogan Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 Size of course matters but in ground fighting situations a big guy will have more control a little guy will escape easier. Im not sure how much you weight but lets just say you way 100lbs you manage to get on top of the guy and you press your forearm on his neck and throat and you lean forward as far as you can probably puttign about 40% of your body weight on the guys neck. Think of a 40 lb dumbell resting on your throat its probably very uncomfertable and probably dangerous. A lot of ground work has to do with positioning your body as a small person you should really focus on this learn how to focus your mass. Martial Arts Experience-learning a form of jujutsuThis is for all you Hulkamaniacs out there!
PhilM1 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 its not the size of the dog in the fight its the size of the fight in the dog". - i have no clue fight til you die
Tibby Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 I think you should life weights. I just started a Jujitsu class, I can’t do jack while standing, but I own the ground! And I’m only like around 5’5”! Learn some joint locks, like arm bars and leg entanglements. Since you teacher in a Judoka as well, he may not go for the leg idea, but learn some arm bars. Learn the lock people up every time they give you a limb. If they can’t give you a limb, it doesn’t matter how tall they are!
Fenris-wolf Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 I don't know how strong/heavy you are, but I'm not exactly huge @ 65kg and 5'6". This has never been a problem because I'm bloody stubborn and relatively strong for...wait for it... a girl. Also, enthusiasm helps! But anyway, what the others said. Size is certainly not the be-all and end-all, it just means you have to work a bit harder. P.S. I'm loving the title for this thread! Let Us Turn The Jump Rope In Accord With Socialist Principles!
shanemm Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 since your smaller you don't want to waist any energy on holding the other person as it will only wittle away at your energy (which you don't have a lot of in comparison to the bigger guy). go for a shot and put everything in it, this can either be a choke or a move to get out and up to your feet. you can be dirty too and grab them by their skin(unless your using a judo gi in which case you'll have to grab really deep in ). usually if you can crank on their head they'll tap but don't count on it. There are two types of people in the world. Those that find excuses and those that find a way.-Unknown
wrestlingkaratechamp Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I'm almos 18 and almost 6 foot 1 and I've always been skinny. I'm going into my senior year in high school and when I was a freshman I wrestled at 109 pounds. I also had extesive MA background but I beat guys that were 200+ pounds easliy. I used a combination of wrestling moves and technuques I learned fom BJJ. I would do this:to get better on the ground have your friend or partner put you in a posstion and then try to get out of it in as many ways as possible and ten flow from one move to the next. Go for the neck wrists and head. Use the weight you have to rub your forearm in someones nose. A LITTLE TIP:I DO 400 CRUNCHES EVERY MORNING AND EVERY NIGHT... YOU SHOULD DO SO ALSO BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE ON THE GROUND IT HELPS IF YOUR STOMACH IS ROCK HARD SO THE LITTLE SHOTS DON'T HURT YOU AND YOU CAN LET SOME SLIDE THAT WOULD OTHERWISE HURT YOU IF YOUR STOMCH WASN'T HARD. You can focus on whats important to protect on the ground and thats your neck and head.
