Icetuete
Saying it doesn't work is like saying a 286 CPU doesn't work, it does, just not as well as a pentium 4. i like this very much - hits on the spot what i wanted to point out in some other thread... it says:karate wasnt made for fighting other arts so i think monkey girl is right with her interpretation. as for kirves: i enjoy ur novel-like posts more and more seems to me like they are getting longer and longer
ninjanurse
Yes, I too believe there was a mis-quote. Things taken out of context always lead to misconception and misunderstanding. Please be careful about the tone of your posts people . No reason to put others down here. While we would all like to believe we are perfect...we're not. Kirves
Not meant for fighting other arts, would roughly translate (in my mind) into as being designed to counter the common fight attacks of the untrained man. That is, not the fake jab, quick uppercut, knockout hook -combinations seen in the ring, but the shove-and-haymaker type combos often seen in brawls between untrained fighters. Right? If we are on the same page here, then I believe this to be correct up to a point. That is, the kata bunkai self defence seems to be that way. The modern karate styles that focus more on sparring, though are not like this.
TJS
Some Stlyes of karate(Kyokushin) have beaten Thai fighters before. Why? because they train with things like leg kicks, knees, etc and they do it full contact.
Shotokan_Fighter
i said it wasnt made for fighting OTHER ARTS what do you ppl think im stupid or somethin why would i say karate wasnt made for fighting?? Kirves
Yes, but styles like Kyokushin don't carry much of the old kata bunkai with them at all. Thus as said earlier, karate wasn't originally designed for fighting against other expert arts, but some (many) of the modern arts are. And as with Kyokushin, it can be seen from the adoption of wider array of training methods.

GreenDragon
in regards to the original post: before beginning an argument, please use a form of grammar close to the standard system. starting an argument with bad grammar is like starting a fight with bad self defense skills. you're going to get destroyed. I could write a two pages on your grammatical errors alone. While I agree that proper grammer is key to avoiding misunderstandings I should point out that english is not everyone on this board's first language and a little effort in understanding would go a long way. And while I would never pick on anyone for their grammatical errors, I felt I should make an exception given your high and mighty tone followed by "I could write a two pages...". That was funny, not as easy as it sounds to write perfectly is it?
