shotochem Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Welcome, Taking a MA is in no way a gaurante that you will win in a fight. The best way to avoid losing a fight IMHO, is to avoid the situation completly. Fighting should be used as a last resort when all other options fail. Taking MA classes will not in most cases, turn a 90lb weakling into Bruce Lee. Sure, it will get you into better shape and teach you somewhat how to defend yourself but MA will not stop a bullet or the knife from cutting you if you miss. You should become faster and punch and kick harder. It will help but it is best to avoid the situation entirely. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
Kirves Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 My suggestion is Shootfighting. But there is no one single answer. I recommend one thing, someone else recommends something else. Listen to what people recommend and then go see some schools that teach these arts. Then choose one that has the schedule, location, fees and atmosphere that might make you stick to it for the long term.
JoKeSdUh Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 well noadays its a lot harder to avoid a fight.. i've done good so far but i know that one of these days i'm gonna have to do it... oh and i'm not 90lbs or weak.. i'm 175 and built pretty good i'm a lifeguard.. i dunno maybe that would help find me a good art.... so whats krav magna and shoot fighting.. what do you guys think about kick boxing.. or i heard about a school teaching a lot of styles of karate and kickboxing together what u guys think about that.??
Budderfly Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 the ABC's of self defense: Avoid potential situations Breathe. Stay Calm. Communicate postively. I know it can be hard to avoid a fight, but I'd rather keep my face intact instead of winning a fight. I use street smarts and commen sense to avoid conflicts and dangerous situations.

granmasterchen Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 you may like kickboxing, muay thai or some karates, they may seem similar to the tae kwondo class that you took, so it all depends on how the classes are taught.... That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
G95champ Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Its not that you have to always win its that you don't ever have to loose. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
