Hi there. I'm looking for a ma school and have a question about styles. I have about a year and a half experience studying goju ryu karate (that I've been out of for about 10 years). One school I'm considering is offering Shorin ryu. Can anyone tell me the differences between these two styles? Thanks.

Shorin ryu is about 80% hard, 20% soft, Goju is about 50/50. I have always liked Shorin ryu and in the material I have learned a bunch of wrist locks & armbars, take downs, and of course a bunch of strikes. I have been doing it for 2 and 1/2 years and am learning more stuff faster the longer I stay in.

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
