StoneSkin Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 wushu looks good because there are lots of long fluid movements. Limbs extend far out and it appears very graceful and very fast and Jet Li makes it look damn good. I think Jackie Chan is Wing Chun based but I could be wrong. Im sure Jackie knows lots of martial arts by now.
stephen lee Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 treebranch, yes I study ShaoLin LongFist, ChinNa and ChoyLayFut Staff. I think it appears flashy for the same reasons StoneSkin stated above^^ many of the forms appear elegant, and the arial and leg preformances of one such as Jet Li are catching! as for Jacki, Im not exactly shure of the style he practices, but Im shure its WuShu of some style. Most likely a Southern style. and even more likely, he practices various styles. the color of a belt, can be a false sence of accomplishment.
Treebranch Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Thanks for the info guys. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
DokterVet Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 My understanding is that Jackie Chan has studied many arts at this point, but started out learning to fight for performance in plays at the opera house where he and Sammo Hung, etc. learned. I imagine it was modern wushu they learned at the opera house. All very acrobatic stuff. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
aznkarateboi Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 modern wushu is flashy and essentially useless for combat. however it is very impressive to look at. i think that any northern style of kung fu is impressive on the big screen.
