Icetuete Posted June 24, 2003 Author Posted June 24, 2003 I thionk for many of us, the rank thing is secondary, at best. I train becasue I can't imagine NOT training. yeah - its not about the ranking. this post wasnt about ranking in first place. i quote from myself:with the black belt i didnt refer to the peace of cloth without any color but to the level of skills u achieved. i wish to train for the purpose only. getting belts with different colours makes it easier to concentrate on short term goals. it makes it easier to stick with it i guess.
capn_midnight Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 i dont think it is JUST will power... its a big part of it though."Where there is a will, there is a way" The body follows the mind. If a student is not WILLING to put up with the physical abuse of training for black belt, they will never get there. If they are willing, the will put the training in, and they will achieve black belt.I just meant that some people think that all they have to do is go to class for 3-4 years and that should be enough. Then they get mad because they don't get their BB and quit. About 1 out of 100 actually stick with it that would have been too easy I've known couple of students that got pissed at my instructor because he wouldn't test them for black belt, so they left and went to another school where the owner gave them black belts when they signed up. Of course, this is also partly my former instructors fault, for promoting them so far without holding them back and giving them false expectations. They really weren't ready for black belt, but they were also not ready for the belts he did give them. Arguing with an engineer is like mud wrestling a pig. After a few hours, you realize they both like it.
