Guest Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 This argument will never go away. Grapplers vs. Standing fighters in UFC. It is true that grapplers have the advantage in a UFC match. It says nothing either type of fighting's quality or practicality. It doesn't even say much about the individuals in the matches.
Shotokan_Fighter Posted June 25, 2003 Author Posted June 25, 2003 fire ka man me andyou we think the same way. we love our style. me and you eat sleep and breath karate. I agree with you all the way "When I fight, I fight with my heart, and soul. My heart, and soul is Shotokan Karate."Shotokan_fighters creed"karate has to come natural in a fight, if you have to think about using karate in a fight, you will loose the fight"3rd kyu brown belt - shotokan karate
Kirves Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 It may well be true that karate will never beat bjj in UFC, one on one. But when three punks attack me on the streets, I'd rather kick the first one of them in the knee to slow him down a bit and start running like Forrest Gump. Beer guzzing, drug using street punks are rarely as fast or enduring runners as a fit martial artist. I would not want to stay and fight standing or wrestling with them in any case, no matter what arts I knew.
Shotokan_Fighter Posted June 25, 2003 Author Posted June 25, 2003 krives saidIt may well be true that karate will never beat bjj in UFC, one on one. you said karate will never beable to beat bjj that is wrong, there maybe a bjj person that can beat a karate ka but i know there are karate kas that can beat or easly match a bbj in UFC or not in UFC. AndrewGreen Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 In which events did this happen? I don't recall ever seeing a karate guy beat a grappler in any event, could you give me some references please. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news!
Beer-monster Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 If they can ask them to prove it Shotokan. But I do think Kirves is wrong, no one may beat a BJJ fighter yet. But eventually a karateka will get off his backside and do it. Where there's a will there's a way. I'm sure karate can beat BJJ, no one thought it up yet. Mind, body and fist. Its all a man truly needs.
Sho-ju Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 It has been done...by kenpo karateka Chuck Lidell. If you can learn to sprwall, avoid subs and stay off your back it can be done.
