AnonymousCoward Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 I'm interested in the use of the finger tip. As a weapon in fighting, it's effective without the brute strength required to break six tiles but I'd like it to be more effective. How does one get the strength in the fingers to perform such a break, what excercises can be recommended? How is the finger strengthening box constructed? Does anyone here have experience of the finger tip break? Cheers All...
granmasterchen Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 try grip training exercises. Finger tip push ups. There are others that involve grabbing, ripping and pulling things with the fingertips but i forget what it is called. That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
AnonymousCoward Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 Thanks for the reply. Has anyone here actually performed a finger tip break?
granmasterchen Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 not I .....i am not prepared yet.....maybe after some more training..... That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Bretty101 Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I'm sure there are many different ways of conditioning your fingers for striking, I'd guess your Kung fu practitioners would be the best people to ask. Driving your hands into bowls of sand, ball bearings and such excercises. I've heard stories of Kung fu practitioners being able to rip flesh off people with clawing strikes and and strike through peoples abdominal walls. It's not really for me thou' I value the use of my hands and would not want the lack of mobility or arthritis. I thought the TKD fingertip strikes were primarily used for attacking the weaknesses in a samaris armour, like the eye slots and arm (pit) joints. Bretty
hogwan Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 Hi; I train in Uechi-Ryu as well as TKD and we use fingertip strikes. The main conditioning we use is using dymanic pressure when we do forms. One thing to note is that generally the tips are used for softer areas...throat, kidney, groin, eyes, etc....however if you are looking to develop the fingers into serious striking weapons I suggest starting out with a bucket of sand, marbles, etc...take it slow! Too many small bones to dive in and try to learn it in 3 months eh' We are all so tough...until we stub our toes or close a door on our fingers!!! lol Regards;https://www.uechi-ryu-journal.com
TKDLadyInSC Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 Has anyone seen the guy on espn2 in the creative breaking competitions? He buts his finger through the side of an unopened soda can. 1st Degree Black BeltTaeKwonDo
ZR440 Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Must have sharp fingernails. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
telsun Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 I have been discouraged from developing finger tip strikes after reading or hearing (can't remember the source) that it will detroy the nerve endings in your fingertips. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
Radok Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Why would you care if the nerves were dead? That's the way it is with any conditioning of a body part. It just means they are getting tougher. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
