broomhilda000
Should you ever use high kicks in a street fight? I've read that you should only do it when they are tired or stunned. But this one time a guy came at me in a bar because i turned and looked at him for a second because he yelled something. So I was on the bar stool and he got up and was about 7 feet away when i got off of it and did a stepping side kick to his jaw. This knocked him over into a chair and then he either got knocked out or passed out. But i've never used a high kick to a sober person. So whats your opinion? Be as a tranquil pool of water in the woods. Calm, collected, reflecting on its surface all that is around it. Make your own mind such a quiet mirror reflecting the mind of the opponent. Even as your partner's impulse to attack passes through his mind it should be reflected in you.The safest battle is the one that is never fought
Tombstone
In my opinion, if you can't do them fast enough and with good accuracy then don't try. If you can, then go for it. What I wouldn't do ever, is one of the fancy flying through the air spinning kicks. Even if you're fast, its still telegraphed. Just my opinion on that too. TJS
If you can pull it off go for it.. It's just risk vs Reward...A high Kick could easily end a fight. But there are many disadvantages to it... Usually you are not warmed up an stretched out tight clothing or shoes that dont work well for this. Slippery surface Getting it caught. hit in the groin Falling. I personally proabably wouldent try one unless they were bent over or something...I prefer other techniques that arent so risky if You do not succed. Martial_Artist
It's a matter of circumstance. If the opportunity presents itself, then go ahead and do it. If not, don't. Also, it takes a great deal of skill to do high kicks properly, meaning with enough speed that you don't get caught or miss. Not too many martial artists take the time to develop this speed or the power that needs to go with it. Personally, I have ended fights with high kicks to the head. Would I recommend it for every fight? No. Just where it works, or when needed. granmasterchen
you take the risk with high kicks, make sure that you have the speed and are accurate, and make sure to drop that leg once you throw the kick, you don't want it to be grabbed and then you get taken down. Low kicks are nice, take out the knee and then their head is right there down low for you to smack at. Always be stretched out so that you can pull the speed off and don't injure yourself That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger

So whats your opinion?I don't mean to sound messed up or anything, but shouldn't you have tried to peacefully solve the problem before resulting to force? The guy was 7 ft away and you didn't know if he was gonna start anything or just say something and let it go. I was taught not to use it to beat the crap out of people, but to defend myself. Oh well. If the guy is sober, don't go for a high kick. Chances are you'll pay the price for it.
broomhilda000
Ya, I probably should have but from past expierences of them ( drunks ) rushing me was kinda a quick reaction. Because most just come up and swing at me or bring a bottle with them. Be as a tranquil pool of water in the woods. Calm, collected, reflecting on its surface all that is around it.
