Fenris-wolf Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Why the angry face? And I practice Muay Thai. In summation; it is a very effective style, but not very fancy. The national sport of Thailand, it originated baisically with the rules of "last one standing wins". It utilises a lot of weapons; kicks/punches/knees/elbows, and even at novice level (which doesn't really exist in Thailand) we have full-contact head strikes. It is still relatively sexist in Thailand, if not in other countries, mostly based on the superstition that a woman "taints" the ring. Kickboxing is a bastardised form of Muay Thai (I hope I don't offend anyone, that's just insofar as I know), baisically a westernised form with no knees or elbows. Treebranch Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 I study Budo Taijutsu, read this interview with Hatsumi Sensei. It will give you a good idea what it's about. http://www.taijutsu.com/faq.htm "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Martial_Artist Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 This might fit in better under general martial arts. "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.Imagination is more important than knowledge.Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." Einstein
Kirves Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 (edited) I have studied several arts and styles in the past. None was ultimately better than the other. Edited August 27, 2003 by Kirves
WC-Strayder Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I am 35 years old and I started with Wing Chun Kung Fu for about a year ago and loves it! It's lightning fast, brutal and effective self-defence and it gives me all the tools I will need in a fight, including good stamina and fatigue. I've changed from a rather round shape to a rather good shape during this year too. I've also quit smoking and have a lot better health now than when I started, so I guess it was about time for me to start and is just glad it was Wing Chun I started with, just by coincidence, not by choise really. I love Wing Chun for it directness, no BS techniques and for it's excellent sparring and B-coz it get's me in very good shape. It is something for all in Wing Chun Kung Fu....... even you If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
