karate_woman Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Off Rock95 (Barrie's radio station)'s site: TWO ATTEMPTED ABDUCTIONS IN BARRIE Barrie Police report two separate abduction attempts yesterday. First occurred at a south end business parking lot. A woman leaving work, walking to her car was stopped by four men in a car. One got out, grabbed her wrist and ordered her inside their car. She pressed the alarm on her car and the men were startled. They took off. The car's described as a four-door, possiblly an Intrepid, dark blue, green or grey. The men were all white. The one who grabbed her is described as about 170 pounds, 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10, clean shaven, wearing a red baseball cap on backwards. The second abduction took place in a city park. Police say a woman was walking her dog when an unknown male approached her and grabbed her. The woman's dog saved her, forcing the man to run away into a nearby wooded area. A search by police failed to locate the man. The suspect's described as white, about 5 foot 8, 170 pounds, clean shaven, mullet hair style, wearing dark blue pants and dark coloured t-shirt. The good news: resistance and surprise worked in case one. The dog's attack worked in case two - again, surprise might have been a factor. Scary times..and this is in addition to two incidents involving children last week! The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
Pacificshore Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 All the more reason to be aware of your surroundings, even when you feel comfortable in it. What's that old saying......"expect the unexpected" Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Tombstone Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 There's always stuff like that around here. Living close to a college probably doesn't help much either.
kajukenbo dad Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6...Good Luck Practice is the best of all instructors...
Jade_Lotus Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Amen to that. When it comes down to it, defend your life first, then worry about laws and that garbage. Understand this, a man without honor, is not a man at all, but a coward in disquise.Animis Opibusque Parati
hobz Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6...Good Luck My sensei told us that one too, i like it Being a woman, people trying to abduct you think you will give in. However you have the advantage, you know karate 4 on 1 is kind of unfair. Try to get your girlfriends etc to start karate ;P Rule #1: Play the game to the limit. Damn the consequences.
karate_woman Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6...Good Luck My sensei told us that one too, i like it Being a woman, people trying to abduct you think you will give in. However you have the advantage, you know karate 4 on 1 is kind of unfair. Try to get your girlfriends etc to start karate ;PNah, I wouldn't give in; they'd have to render me unconscious or otherwise incapable of doing anything. I have a car alarm "panic" button like that lady, though I must think that my wicked scream would probably come out....I can silence a room of karateka participating in a tournament with my kiai You are right: 4 on 1 is extremely unfair, and we were told by a soke (founder) that if it is one on one, send them to the hospital, if it is more than that...make sure one of them is going with you to the hospital - you can get his buddies when they come to visit their pal . He cracks me up I usually preach awareness, avoidance, etc, but unfortunately, the woman was just leaving work and I believe it was broad daylight - not your typical "common sense" situation where avoidance takes care of many of them. I would be willing to bet that at least some workers in that shopping plaza are going to their cars in groups now, though. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
hobz Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Yep your typical criminal masterminds at work... Rule #1: Play the game to the limit. Damn the consequences.
sansoouser Posted June 28, 2003 Posted June 28, 2003 good doggie =) my dog has scared away plenty of guys who start to walk up by me well I kinda help to by acting like my dog is pulling so I am really straining to pull him back yelling " Down Shark Down! " The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
