Treebranch Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Can anyone find links that have any of this information? I think it's easy to say someone was the best when they're dead, that's how legends and myths are created. Drunken Monkey Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 well, that's the thing, there is very little documentation of any fights between bruce and anybody. this is slightly dubious because i)if bruce beat them surely the foundation would tell people ii)if you beat bruce, surely you'd tell people even if you take into account the wish to not disrespect people/clubs/style/organisations, it is still a little strange that there are no records of ANY fights. make of this what you will. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
pvwingchun Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 There is some anecdotal evidence, albeit from his kung fu brothers. People like Hawkins Cheung, William Cheung, Wung Shun Leung, etc. who have said he was a very good fighter. If you go to there web sites or websites about them you can find "tales and stories" about their fights. Wing Chun Kuen Alliancehttps://www.wing-chun.us
Prodigal Son Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I don't claim to be any authority... Brucey-Baby moved to the US when he was in his late teens, unless I am mistaken. From that day he never trained with his Wing Chun teacher, so his training effectively stopped at the 2nd form (Chun has 6 in total). Now whilst I am not dissing Bruce in any way, I wonder what his contemporary students, who went on to finish the Wing Chun system (a style which is extremely clannish and secretive at the higher levels) under Yip Man himself, were capable of doing when it all kicked off ? Maximum respect to Bruce Lee - a true warrior. ...I still reckon Jet Li would do him. So there. >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. jmd161 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 ...I still reckon Jet Li would do him. So there. >>>PS<<< I hope you would'nt be putting money on that outcome? Since Bruce Lee trained in Wing Chun and other real martial arts.Jet Li has trained Wu Shu his entire life.Maybe in a movie fight but never in a real fight. jeff The Basics Are The Hidden Secret To Kung Fu Master The Basics.
Treebranch Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Looks like Jet trains in Boxing as well as Wu Shu. No one will ever know the outcome of the Bruce Lee Vs. Jet Li fight. azwingchun Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 That may be a good fight, I read about a year ago that Jet Li also had some Wing Chun training. The article stated that he really liked Wing Chun for the street or fighting applications. John Widener
Prodigal Son Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I would never diss Bruce, but.. I saw an interview with Mr Li, who said that he had studied many martial arts for several years whilst at the Chinese academy - including years of Chi Gung and other internal martial arts. Jet Li was China's best representative, and the Chinese govenment invest heavily in training such people. Wu Shu is invalid as a martial art (and yeah, I know it's a bit flowery)? What, less valid than karate ? Just cause Bruce could beat up on Chuck Norris means nothing - I have beaten up too many xth dan karate blackbelts over the years whilst working on the doors in London. Watch Drunken Master to see the Wu Shu form in action (the auntie does it). Check out some of his films where Jet Li throws down REAL techniques - Fist Of Legend etc., and then tell me the boy can't fight - it's ridiculous to say that. I'm sure he's not where he is today based on his good looks or who he knows - he is a badboy martial artist by anyones standards. Bruce Lee has become a Holy Cow - 'the greatest fighter who ever lived' - nobody could beat him - oh, except for Wong Shun Leung (his teacher),who regularly slapped him like a bitch - and who knows who else. I mean, it's not like he had to actually ever had a real fight or anything... respect to you all >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. delta1 Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 and were all of the witnesses ed parker affilliates? No. But if you want more information on the days when Bruce Lee trained regularly with Mr. Parker, go to http://www.kenponet.com/ and ask about it. There are quite a few senior Kenpoists there who would remember. They are pretty good at answering questions. I've heard that Bruce trained with several of Mr. Parkers students. Sometimes he won, sometimes they did. One thing he was good at exploiting was when Kenpo violates Ving Tsun centerline theory, they say Bruce was so fast you were traped and hit before you knew what happened. I've also heard that Mr. Parker, and the Kenpoists he trained with, had a lot of respect for Bruce Lee. At one time Mr Parker said something to the effect that if Bruce continued to train hard he'd be one of the best ever. Comeing from Ed Parker, that says a lot. Freedom isn't free!
Drunken Monkey Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 okok, this thing about jet li having had some wing chun training. i'm sure i've said this before but if the teacher is willing, he can teach you all three (hand) forms in a week (a day if you're not fussy about accuracy). at the end of it, you would know all three forms but does that mean you are proficient in it? does it mean you will understand the nuances of the style? does it mean that you will be able to use it effectively against a guy who has only learnt the first form? and please don't use what you see in films as proof of ability. they are carefully choreograhed set pieces that you and i could learn and reproduce and with a little editing recreate EXACTLY. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
