monkeygirl Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Yup...just about everybody gets those. The name is different every time, but the offer's always the same. The best thing you can do is to report it as spam to your e-mail provider, if possible. I know Yahoo! has a "this is spam" button in all its e-mails that you can use to report stupid mails like that. Basically, what these e-mail spammers are trying to do, is to get you to reply to this e-mail, since it's such an "enticing" deal. When they send you an e-mail, they don't really know your address is real or not. The second you reply, however, they have confirmation of your address, and will just continue to send more e-mails, but this time they'll be those crap advertisements. http://www.spacespider.net/emo/spam.gif So resist the urge to yell at them, because nobody's listening. 1st dan & Asst. Tombstone Posted June 7, 2003 Author Posted June 7, 2003 Well I was thinking more along the lines of they wanted access to my bank account instead of just spamming my email. But either is pretty funny. People are weird
karate_woman Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Actually, they ARE trying to get your $$$; the RCMP has a warning about this particular scam. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
Tombstone Posted June 7, 2003 Author Posted June 7, 2003 Whats the RCMP? And I hope they respond to my reply Edit: I just google searched for RCMP and all I got was the Canadian Police. I don't live in Canada though.
karate_woman Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Oh. I do The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
rb Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 As said above, it's more than spam. I've recieved that one a few times and I also get ones that reply to my bike part ads in exchange for some convoluted money trade. Thing is they target bike ads that I put up 3 years ago. Tombstone The RCMP stands for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They are the descendents of the Northwest Mounted Police and other horse regiments from when Canada was a beginning nation. The current RCMP acts as a national police force.
monkeygirl Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 Doh! I didn't bother to read the e-mail since I'd read it before...and I'd forgotten about the bank account stuff. Yeah that's a major issue. Guess that's what I get for not reading 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
