goedikey Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 WTF ? I am just starting Karate and have been struggling with some issues of my own and have just decided that I would head back tomorrom until... Someone got killed by a punch on the torso today at a Dojo near my place ! This is scary stuff and makes me wonder if I should pursue this. I understand that there are "some" risks but never thought it could be that much... Does this happen often ?
G95champ Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Not to make a joke of it but Shotokan Karate teaches one punch one kill. However I can't belive anyone teaches full contact to that extent. Espcially with the crazy lawyers now. On the other hand if this person had a weak heart or something of that nature this is not shocking. I have been in karate 10 years and we spar pretty hard. The worst thing we have ever had to deal with was some broken toes, fingers, and noses. Well and one broke rib. However thoswe were few and far between and the fingers was done for a dude hitting a wall cause he got mad. LOL. Anyone who teaches karate or MA in general should be teaching control because it is powerful stuff and in the wrong hands can be dangerous. Pass my respect on the family if you know them. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
goedikey Posted June 7, 2003 Author Posted June 7, 2003 Thank you for replying. I believe there is a development in the story. I also posted this in the Karate forum but here it is if you are interested..: http://www.canada.com/search/story.aspx?id=cb107af1-c6c7-44aa-8f1c-d8d92c9b5c5b I want to feel safe being a beginner...
SaiFightsMS Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 There are records of kids getting hit in the chest during sporting events and dying. It usually involves baseball though. What you have described is a very rare event.
SaiFightsMS Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 I am going to close this since there is another thread on the same topic.
