Kev70 Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Ok guys here is the problem. There are only two choices that I seem to have where I live. TKD or Karate. I am 24 and am 6'4" and weigh 205lbs, I work out on my Bowflex and do 250 pushups everyday. I am fairly strong/cut and was wondering what anyone suggests? I am quick with my punches but a little slower with kicks since I am out of practice using them. I took Karate when I was 15 and did ok but now I am much stronger and faster now than I was then. What would suit my body type?
kilo Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Well I'll say this try both of them. Then you decide which one you enjoy more. Kendo is like starwars and everyone gets to be Darth Vader."Luke, I am your sensei"
G95champ Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Both will fit. Key word is Martial Arts. ARTS that is. In art their is no right or wrong only what you see and think is pretty. If it was Martial Science then some things would be true and other would be false but art alows each of us t grow to fit the style we choose and make it our own. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
IAMA_chick Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 go watch both of the classes, meet both of the instructors, talk to some of the students there and see which one you like better. that is what i would do. Tae Kwon Do15-years oldpurple--belt
Radok Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 If your real big on competition, go with TKD. If your more on the serious side, go with the Karate. But make sure to see if both instructors are good first-watch a few classes. By the way, what style of Karate is it? If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
Kev70 Posted June 5, 2003 Author Posted June 5, 2003 Thanks a lot guys, I think that I have found my place. I talked to an instructor and watched a few classes. He showed me a lot of his credentials and everything looks good. He is a Christian which is a plus for me and has a really flexible schedule for his students (which helps out for college). The other places acted very remiss, almost bored with teaching someone??? This instructor was the only one that acted like they wanted me to be there. I am kind of disappointed with their reactions, karate it is then...
kilo Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 I hpoe you have fun and enjoy training. Kendo is like starwars and everyone gets to be Darth Vader."Luke, I am your sensei"
DokterVet Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 A big strong guy like you should do well in karate. Do you know what style it is? 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
Kev70 Posted June 6, 2003 Author Posted June 6, 2003 I forgot to ask about that What are the differences? Does one just cover blocking and striking more than the other or something? I have a feeling that I am going to have to get a lot bigger and stronger though
Icetuete Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 if u like kicking better than striking TKD it is. if u dont, u will probably like karate better. but it still cant be wrong to try out both!
