aznkarateboi Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 can someone tell me some similarities and differences between the two arts?
Kaju_influenced Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 Well one main diff i find is movement karate seems to be more direct in there blocking and attacking however in gung fu the blocking and attacking is more circular and somewhat more fluide. WhiteBelt Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 It all depends on the styles, and there are so many who knows where to start? Your average Karate vs. Kung Fu in North America is going to go along the lines of Karate being hard while Kung Fu is soft. This isn't true all the time, and is only simplified. Another thing that could be different is the weapons training that accompanies each. Karate tends to go with Kobudo, while Kung Fu usually goes with traditional chinese weapons. If you go back far enough, there is no difference between Karate and Kung Fu. Karate was brough to Okinawa from China, and developed into what we have now...
Drunken Monkey Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 well, what you learn also depends on the school because even in one catergory such as karate there are many, many differences. even in the same style there are going to be differences purely because the one teaching might concerntrate on compitions or they might choose to work on forms+applications or they might be very traditional and teach you everything. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Treebranch Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 I would say Kung Fu simply because there are so many styles of it. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
King of Fighters Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 I personally think that southern styles of kung fu is better than japanese styles karate, and okinawin stlyes of karate is better than nothern styles shaolin kung fu. And okinawin karate and southern kung fu styles are equal. This is not always true but i believe it is in most cases. The main difference between kung fu and karate is that karate is more linear while kung fu is more circular.
mArTiAl_GiRl Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Karate vs Kung fu? Now I already expected this. Because my brother started to practise kung-fu and now the only thing he is talking about is: karate vs kung-fu!! oh... Kill is love
SBN Doug Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 can someone tell me some similarities and differences between the two arts? Please stay on topic. Refrain from judging one to be "better" than the other. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Kensai Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Umm, this is an impossible task. There are about a GAGILLION Kung Fu styles, ranging from Tai Chi to Eagle claw. That are so different from one other you'd think they were from a different planet, same goes for Karate. PS Kung Fu just means "hard work", Wing Chun KUNG FU would be a style. Karate means "empty hand" Shotokan Karate would be a style, so try and be more specific in your question. But Kung Fu is WAYYYY better! NO, KARATE DO IS BETTER! But your asking the wrong quesiton, why dont all people study AIKIDO as it is quiet clearly better than everything else...............
Drunken Monkey Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 because then there wouldn't be any of us rubbish people for you to beat up. see, even us kung fu people are good for something post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
