shotokanwarrior Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 I also have a question which has been around longer? Where Art ends, nature begins.
Drunken Monkey Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 oooh, that question might annoy a few hard core christians out there... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
shotokanwarrior Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 I know I did it on purpose, some days I just feel like being an a$$. Where Art ends, nature begins.
goshinman Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 That was a good book ( bible) a lot of good stories, drunk fishermen write good fictional tales. Now there's a good way to start a flame war and get this topic locked. This is exactly why I don't like these topics, they can never go on civally for too long. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
goshinman Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 I also have a question which has been around longer? What exactly are you asking has been out longer, martial arts or christianty or buddism/christianty? And what is the relevance to the topic at hand? Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
shotokanwarrior Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 budo/christianity. Where Art ends, nature begins.
JerryLove Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Budo literally means "fighting path" and so would be as old as civilization... a quick web-search indicates that organized "Budo" (Japanese schools teaching it as a philsophy) is only about 400 years old. Christianity, we know, began somewhere between 30 and 70 AD. So organized Christianity is older than organized Budo... I'm not sure why this fact would upset anyone. https://www.clearsilat.com
shotokanwarrior Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Daruma arrived is shoalin-si china from india in 5th century bc and taught zen buddhism, now that sounds pretty well organized even if it was small because you must remember that the followers of christ at the time were also the minority. Where Art ends, nature begins.

paolung Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 yes but you asked about budo, not zen. there's a difference. "It is not how much you know but how well you have mastered what you've learnt. When making an assessment of one's martial arts training one should measure the depth rather than the length". - MASTER "General" D. Lacey
