These are the titles I have on Brazilian Martial Arts:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Theory and Technique

Renzo Gracie, Royler Gracie

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Techniques

Jean Jacques Machado, Kid Peligro

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Self-Defense Techniques

Royce Gracie, Charles Gracie, Kid Peligro

I enjoyed each of these titles very much. I have read through each of them, and although I have no experience with BJJ, these books provide very good explanations and demonstrations of the moves, in a basic manner. I believe that they provide a great reference to the art of BJJ, and you can't really argue with the pedigree of the authors!

I highly recommend them.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gracie Submission Essentials

Helio Gracie, Royler Gracie

The Little Capoeira Book

Nestor Capoeira

I'd consider the "Infinite Insights into Kenpo" series by Ed Parker key in any collection. Check the kenponet.com mall if you're interested.

Secrets of the Samurai The Martial Arts of Feudal Japan by Adele Westbrook, Oscar Ratti

I finished this book not too long ago, and I rather enjoyed it. It is kind of like a history lesson in the martial styles of feudal Japan. It covered many different aspects of the martial arts, and their relations to different social classes of Japan as well (not just the bushi class, either).

It described various methods of weapon combat, including spear, sword, fan, bo, and such. Different schools of Jiujitsu were discussed as well, along with Karate and Sumo.

It also delved into the various aspects as to why the warrior class adopted Zen and Buddhist beliefs to fit into their fighting methods.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and it was very informative. It even made use of the occasional MA anecdote, and is illustrated with some nice drawings, although I don't think they lend much to the reading itself, aside from breaking up the pages and saving the eyes a bit.

Overall, a good read.

Hello, I too like to collect any type of martial art books.

Loren chistensen is one author worth reading (all his books for the modern day martial artist). If you have not read any..better find them..he is a must read books.

Some of you mentions Loren books and off course "THE GIFT OF FEAR" is worth reading.

Marc, the Animal,MacYoung books are interesting reading, (his experiences as a bouncer in some of the toughest bars.)

MY flavoriate reading ,and read it several times, 900 pages long. (MUSASHI) ....Base on a true story of a famous Samurai. Everyone in Japan knowns the name MUSUSHI1 ...The person in the BOOK of FIVE RINGS.

There are so many magazines on the martial arts...over the years I have collect many flavoriate short articles and save them in folder. Many times going back for research and studies to share with others.

OH! one more book worth reading : VERBAL JUDO (require reading for the Kona police officers),also there are more books and authors on talking your way out of troubles......Aloha
