Hello there, first post, be gentle.

Basically, i did do Karate (Wado Ryu) and kickboxing, for several years, until about 7 months ago when i went over at kickboxing, tearing my anterior cruciate ligament, not fun, believe me on that one.

As i didnt want to completely quit my martial arts, and i cant exactly continue at the moment, i bought a pair of nunchaku.

Now these are some of the most fun things you can buy, like a yo-yo but dangerous, though not fun when you gurt yourself, i found the most painful place to hit was the elbow, but anyway, one pair quickly because 3 (i bought wood ones to start, then some foam then a pair of metal - aluminium to be precise, to demonstrate with). Now i am pretty good, and can do everything my instructor (6th Dan) can show me at least as well as he can, but i was wondering if there was more? any links would be appreciated.

Also now i feel i am proficient in the Chucks, i am looking foir a new weapon to try out, I was looking towards a Bo Staff, or possibly Sai, and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions as to what to get, and even more importantly where to learn from, preferably on the net (being a student my finances are somewhat limited).

Thanks for reading this,

Anthony

I, for one, find the sai really fun to learn. However, I find the bo a lot more practical. You can find a lot more items that resemble a bo rather than a sai. In training, it just depends on what you are looking for. If you're looking for just fun, go with whatever one you like the best.

Im doing it for a mixture of reasons, just for the sake of learning, but i have also done a few demonstrations when the club has been doing anything, i have been out there to show the nunchaku.

My instructor hasnt shown me anything apart from the Chucks, his favourite weapons are the sai, but also the Bo is used a lot at our club when we (the adults) are using weapons.

So yes i would like something that looks good, but just as much i would like something that is fun to throw around - like the chucks.

Suggestions? also any resources online? or books from amazon?

I'm getting a few videos by Tadashi Yamashita in a week or two. I'll let you know how they are. He's the person that taught Bruce Lee nunchaku, if you want some background, but he's also been in the Guiness book of world records and is pretty decent. Its a shame that due to politics at the time, he was sort of expelled from Shorin Ryu :bawling: Prior to that point, he was the "adopted son" of the head of my style of Shorin Ryu.

All that aside, it also helps just to have someone show you the basics at least, because its hard to ask a video when you have questions.

Dan Inosanto taught Lee as far as I know.

Yamashita's videos are more for show ( he likes his wrist rolls), if thats what your after then you'll like them.
