AndrewGreen Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 Yes Fencing, Kendo, stick fighting, SCA. You can spar any weapon you want, anyone doing weapons for functional value should be doing sparring. Most tournament forms competitions are an entirely different thing though, that is just for show. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news!
theswarm Posted May 26, 2003 Author Posted May 26, 2003 cool what happens when in an art like kobudo they have very sharp weapons like machete, or in kali with the knives, or ninjutsu with the katana - i take it they'd armour up or have to have amazing control to spar without taking out limbs ?
AndrewGreen Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 You don't use a sharp one... Kendo spars, that is katana Sabre is supposed to be sharp and fencers get to keep their limbs. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news!
tommarker Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 In Kali, They would go back to the using the stick. Same concepts apply. Shinai for Kendo. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
WhiteBelt Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 I've seen some sensei spar with the bo. You could hear it from outside the dojo. And no, it didn't look like Star Wars...
fireka Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 it didnt look like star wars!? thanks for running my dream! what about sai? ever seen them spar? (yes, i know, im obessed with this weapon) i guess it would make more since though to go sai vs. bo or sai vs. sword than sai vs. sai "i could dance like that!.......if i felt like it...." -Master Betty
