devilthaiboxer
How do you escape from locks and chokes in jiu jitsu.Im not asking for specific techniques for getting out of things (though they would be interesting) but more along the lines of what to do when caught in something.I ask because my sensei in karate (we do alot of things that arn't part of our system) tells us when wrestling to not use our strength??????? and that kinda lost me. I'd quote bruce lee but to me he's just another person who got lucky

AndrewGreen
Tap out, once it is sunk its usually to late. You can defend them before they happen. But what you are asking is kind of like "How do I stop a punch that has hit me in the face" Apart from that it depends on what they are doing, some things can be escaped with a significant strength advantage, or if they are just not applied "right", and some submissions can be escaped and are used for setting up other things. Give an example of what youare getting caught in and I'm sure someone will help you. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news! AndrewGreen
Ok, he's got my back with hooks in and a rear naked sunk, walk me through picking him up and slamming him on his head from their? While your at it, he's mounted with a keylock, go from there. How about one more, He's got a standard "T" armbar, popped over to it from mount, go from there. Those are 3 basic locks so it should be easy for you to describe this pick them up and slam them defence from them. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news! Karateka_latino
Best way to escape from a submission hold is not allow yourself to get into one. Escape before or during the technique is been worked.. One its Locked, its almost a suicide trying to escape.
ninjanurse
Relax and don't fight it-you'll tire yourself out. Learn to constantly shift your center of gravity so they lose their leverage. Eventually you will tire them out and find an opening to use a finger lock or other technique to get yourself out. Learning escapes takes a lot of practice and body awareness...it also takes patience. I was Joking for the most part...but slams can be useful as a last resort for some gaurd submissions.
AndrewGreen
Dangerous for you to. Triangles can be escaped this way, but don't try it on an arm lock or you risk breaking your own arm... And there are ways to prevent this. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news!
