mArTiAl_GiRl
Well... Wado-ryu.... I used to practise it, but my instructor got interested in the style which I used to practise in Sweden (shito-ryu), so now we train shito-ryu too. And guess why shito ryu, ... well, because there are not so many katas in Wado-ryu, it's not so good to compete with that style, it's quite hard to win with Wado-ryu (if you want to be a competitor). Wado-ryu is not so soft and it doesn't have such 'round-looking' techniques, in that style, it's not so important to be fast as in shito-ryu, but Kumite (sparring) is good in Wado-ryu. Shito-ryu has the traditional Kumite way. Anyway, Wado-ryu (I'm just honest) isn't such an effective style, but it has it's own good and weak things, like in every style. (I personally would prefer to practise another style than Wado-ryu). Kill is love
DokterVet
Hi, Have fun learning Wado-ryu! There's a lot to learn in the style, so you'll never 'finish.' Don't worry about being the only beginner; most clubs welcome beginners and if you are the only one, think of it as being an only child. You'll have to be everyone's favourite. It will take you a few years to become profficient in the basics, but once you do, you'll find that relaxation is a major stress in Wado-ryu. It is not a particularly hard style of karate (which may be good to know when you start to get up in your years). The creator of the style was a jujutsu Grandmaster, so there should be many oppurtunities for you to learn takedowns, joint locks and grappling, in addition to lots of kata, bunkai, kihon kumite and sparring. BTW, here's a link to my Wado club in case you are curious. Toronto Wado-kai 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate

Roll on next Tuesday and in the meantime I shall be practising my turns so that I dont do a full spin as if Im dancing! *L* Best wishes Lis Edited May 23, 2003 by Phoenix 9th Kyu red belt Wado-Ryu
theswarm
I reckon i'd like being the only beginner in a class think how much attention you'd get and how much quicker you'd learn with all these experienced people to look onto. I can only say this after having done martial arts though.
