ahgao
What is the essence of wushu (I use the term wushu to represent all CMA including taiji and others...)? Wushu is not only about how to fight, it teaches moral & ethical values, it is a Way of life, it builts a better community and promotes friendship. I don't deny that wushu was created with the element of fighting spirit, and in the past, there could be times of unrest and turmoil, but do you learn wushu now because you want to fight with others? There are people who interact in Martial Arts thru application. Why? Is it to fight? Is it for self-defence? Given the fact that they have acquired the ability to use their skills, have they ever encountered any life-threatening situation? If no why do they still carry on their sunday activities? I could only make a guess that it is their passion for Martial arts thru interaction in application of fighting skills. Also there are people who keep learning many arts and there are more arts he wishes to learn. I believe he loves different forms and types of MA and possibly of the knowledge he gained from them. Most contemp wushu practisoner learn wushu because of the beauty of the art, for competition sake, to learn the techniques, to know more friends, for the sporting spirit...etc No Master will teach you wushu and tell you to go and fight. Most want u to turn out a better stronger person. There is a purpose why you want to learn wushu, but I strongly believe that many don't learn wushu to fight others. Reflect on yourselves, when you 1st got to know abt Wushu and wanted to learn, what was your idea of Wushu? What was ur mental image of Wushu and how did you categorize it? Was it one of a good healthy image? A noble art with noble practisioners? In the nutshell, I would say, interaction with the MA (be it different ways of interaction) is the key factor why people pick up Wushu. Think and you will be amaze by your own thoughts...I know I did. Daniel KawSgWutan.com - Singapore Pugilistic Community Infotainment Site
